So basically just let me know your favorite game in terms of weapon sounds? I've been playing CoD:BO lately and IMO the weapons sound pathetic. Also IMO this is something that was better made in CoD4, which is odd and sad.

Also BF:BC2 sounds much better, but there's still a lot missing.

(just for reference I have a mahoosive 5.1 set, but I keep the volume reasonable. It's not about the volume, but the sounds :wallbash: Also as a reference I have a clue of weapon sounds, as being a Finn I've gone through the half a year in the defence forces, including lots or RK-62-shooting (AK47-clone) firing a M72 LAW, NSV and being nearby when a ZU-23-2 was fired)

EDIT: also totally OT, lemme know if you're in for some BF:BC2 tonight.

I do rather like the guns in Killing Floor, they have great feedback.

And anyone remember Black on consoles from a little while ago? Now those were guns.

erm, to me, the most epic ones are "M-m-m-m-m-Monster Killllll" from Unreal Tournament and the sound of the grunts as they get reduced to a pile of blood in Quake.

If your going on sound quality,

BF:BC2 is good for sound and AWG from Counter-Strike.

The Barrett from CoD4 was pretty epic.

Personal satisfaction thumbs up for the Combine rifle in HL2, feels damn good to fire. Alyx's pistol on 3-round (SMod iirc) was also lots of fun to play with.

Insurgency's pretty good on the realistic front. I think for me anyway, the sound of the gun is very closely tied to how effective it is in the game, no matter how awesome a gun sounds if it takes more than two shots to put someone down it's automatically weakened. That may very well be why I like the Insurgency guns so much, 2 rounds max.

Barrett has always been fun in CoD but ARMA II is meant to be most realistic (it's pretty good when you're not the one shooting but the first person sounds are a bit boring).

Has anyone noticed that Commando in BLOPS makes a slight ringing sound after shooting?

im up for BFBC2, totally fed up with Blops' bunny hopping Ak74u sprayers.

BFBC2 sound effect is very good. but footsteps and such are missing, you cannot hear people sneaking up to you at all.

The Plasma Rifle from Doom always gets my 'destruct-o-meter' up >.< BFG has the same thing!

The Fusion Rocket Launcher and HMG from Red Faction.

    Glorious!

Shotguns generally have a good sound to it.

The Magnums of COD were always fun to shoot.

Another vote from Killing floor from me, the guns all sound meaty and serious. the 9mm pistol is probably my favourite sounding.
Although unloading an entire AA12 clip into a fleshpound comes close

Personally I like flipping between guns on CSS, particularly when I have the 3rd pistol and the 1st shotgun.

Sounds like you should try some of those crouch-only servers :p

OT: The Deagle from COD4 is probably my personal favourite

I'm with you on that, gun sounds are really weak and muffled in most games, even a .22 sounds more intimidating IRL. I like to think that it's done for gameplay reason, to prevent fatigue to the player and to make weapons easier to tell apart. Or it could just be lazyness.

I liked BC2, Insurgency and maybe the new MoH. As has been said above ARMA's first person sounds aren't the greatest, but when the shots are coming at you it seems quite authentic.

I also agree on COD4, the sounds in that had more of a pop/crack to them, while the ones in BO are low and bassy instead, if anything.

I'd say thats literally because you get a 360 echo from the round when it's fired. I loved how an L85A2 sounds when it's fired... a thud and a crack as the round leaves the muzzle! But you don't get that in games, thats the difference.

I thought the gun sounds improved considerably from HL2 to HL2Ep1, brighter, more cutting and generally higher quality to my ears. I heard it most in the SMG, but pistols and the ever-lovely Combine pod gun also improved.

I dislike most of the gun sounds in Far Cry 2 due to them just being weird, especially the 3rd sniper. . . can't remember its name.

the sound location in bc2 is completely retarded but the game, as a whole, sounds fantastic
