That's a tough one, I think it's an even split between Nirvana and STP. I'm leaning more towards STP...they lasted longer than Nirvana (but of course that doesn't necessarily make them better, it just means there are more albums out there).

So...STP it is, for me!

Nirvana, hands down in my opinion.

I hate everything they did after nevermind, but that cd alone puts them at the top of the list. When Smells Like Teen Spirit first hit the radio it was something completely different, and in a good way. Whether or not they were influenced by other bands is a matter of debate, but they were the ones that everybody copied.

That CD influenced so many bands it's pathetic, they've been on just about every "must have" or "best of" list that includes the 90's.

    My 2 shiny shiny pennies.

(All my opinion, do not take too much offence)

Pearl Jam were the friendly, "acceptable" face of grunge. They had such a big following because they were the kind of band that celebrities liked to try and make themselves look trendy.

"Jeremy" and "Alive" were good songs but I don't think Pearl Jam had much influence on the real "grunge" scene, just the tv friendly ideal one.

Nirvana, no matter what you opinion of them, had a far greater influence on music as a whole. Kids today still love them. I see 14 years walking around wearing Nirvana t-shirts and writing the bands name on their school bags/folders etc. However most of them only like one Nirvana album: Nevermind.

The Nevermind album brought them to public attention, but the early stuff, like Bleach, was a truer representation of what Nirvana stood for. In Utero was a return to type, hence the reason many people didn't like it. Nevermind was a Kurt put it a "radio friendly unit shifter", whereas In Utero deliberatley set out to piss people off, staying close to the punk ethic that Nirvana held dear.

So for me Nirvana every time.

    RIP Kurdt Kobain.

Erm.. all genres are terms made up by either the media, the record labels, the fans, the bands themselves or whoever. That's kinda the point.. Nirvana were a grunge band because people called them a grunge band and that's all there is to it.

Grunge, Dance, Death Metal, Urbane Folk, Speedcore, Goa-Psy Trance, Handbag House... they're all just made up by someone.

At the end of the day there are NO genres, only music.

Why have I never heard any hard faster songs by PJ. The best PJ song I have ever heard is I'm Still Alive. Other than that not to that are good!

    DOTN

Any Days of the New Fans...what the hell was that song called..it was acoustic or something. Well, "Rain When I Die" by AIC is one the best grunge songs I have ever heard.
