I know "what's the best laptop?" is a ridiculous question, but I've got a friend who's looking for a good one, and I could do with some advice. She needs:

    • Good quality hardware/manufacturer
    • Decent sized screen
    • Something good for design/graphics work (Photoshop, Illustrator etc.), so a decent amount of memory and HD size
    • Budget is £500-700 ish
    • Running Windows

Frankly, I can search out laptops that are the right spec, I'd just like to know who make the best hardware, and who to avoid really.

    Thanks!

Get an i7 Dell Studio off ebay with extended warranty.

    Write back with other specs?

    Processor?

    Actual Screen Size?

    Any Special Requirements?

You might be able to get a new i5 Dell Studio 17 for that money, truth be told.

    My laptop:

With a lesser warranty, and skimping on the coloured back, bigger battery, etc (or even dropping down to a 15" Studio), that should get you close to within budget.
