I actually have a few questions about LCDs besides what software to use. I am wondering if the Crystalfontz 634 http://www.crystalfontz.com/cgi-bin/pricing.pl?product=634 is ready to be plugged in to my serial port or do I need to do any soldering? I am also wondering what kind of film I would need to get in order to invert the colors. Finally, what software do you recommend. I would like to be able to display some basic stats about my computer and maybe some information about the MP3 I am playing in Winamp. Thanks for your time. Oh yeah, great site I love reading the articles.
I got no experience with LCD's but I'm sure some of the other guys will jump in and help ya out, just wanted to welcome ya to the boards.
Somebody told me that the matrix orbitals come with software that lets you automatically do all that stuff... until i get one, ill have to wonder what the lcd is all about.
ok, it's late and I'm bored... Winamp: LCDriver has some really nice visual Winamp plugins. They just display the song playing or the spectrum anylizer and several other screen. LCDstats and LCD Center have nice Winamp control, were you can turn the volume up and down, skip tracks, select play lists and so on if you havea keypad attached to the LCD. This is very simple to do to our displays. For System Information: LCDstats does a nice job, it's a simple program right now, very easy to setup, pretty basic, but good. It has GPO and keypad configuration if you have our displays once again. LCDriver has several programs writen for it including some software by Uller him self. LCD Center does allot, very easy to setup, allot of information screens, it does a little of everything. LCD Smartie is the newest kid on the block, it can be called the big brother of LCD Center. Allot of screens, similar interface, lot's of different options. Once again it has GPO and keypad support for our LCDs. This is a great little program and I run it at home. It's still in semi development and more advances will be seen soon with it. (once again mostly for our displays) http://www.lcdforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=242&forum=1&16 (couple of pics of it in action) There is LCDproc and LCD4Linux for Linux systems... some Free BSD software I tracked down... There is always something being worked on. The software front doesn't stay quite for long Cheers...
