I have used all the av's through the years! Most hated Norton (Hog), used to love Kaspersky but most loved AVG- and currently using= AVG 2011 ,came out very recently. I also have superantispyware installed and have not noticed performance hits on top end or low end spec m/c (except when actually scanning and they all do that pretty much.

Have installed these on over 20 m/c for differrent people and they don't come back with virus problems! Have Avira on one of my machines and that appears OK too.

sorry to bump an old thread, but I'll change the topic slightly - AV FOR A DESKTOP?

I don't care if it's paid/non paid AV software, I just want the security as my 4 yr old is starting to play around on my computer and anything that flashes he clicks on. My current AV just expired and I've never been happy with it (Panda) so I want to try something new.

Does everyone still recommend MSE? Or is there something better for a desktop? Norton? AVG?

    Another vote for PandaCloud.

It's free, small, doesn't get on your nerves, scans quickly and a little panda icon on your taskbar > all.

Avast uses about 10,000-30,000 KB of memory usage and it's free (http://avast.com)

Is there any proof for that claim Hazmatt? If so i might switch as MSE uses about 55-70,000kb
