Championship Manager 00/01 was the first game I bought when I got my own pc (joined the party late as an 18 year old) and is still probably the most enjoyable of the series for striking the fun/detail balance.
Which one in that series is it that still get's community updates every season? I think it was 02/03 but i could be wrong.
Transport Tycoon was one for me, alongside others already mentioned. also, CivII. EPIC. EDIT: Also. Settlers II!
There is just one mention to ultima... How dare you people forget the ultima series? Ultima VI: The False Prophet Ultima VII: The Black Gate Ultima VII: The serpent isle Ultima VIII: Pagan Ultima Underworld I: The Stygian Abiss Ultima Inderworld II: Labirynth of Worlds And again, Ultima Underworld I was one of the first "first person" anything to emerge. It came 3 months before Castle Wolfenstein 3D. But UUI had lots more things to do, after all it is a RPG. It also inspired Deus Ex, Bioshock, Valve and Bethesda. But I think Bioshock was more influenced by Fallout series IMHO. oooo.. And system shock was build using more or less the same engine by the very same studio: Looking Glass Studios. The Ultima series were WAAAAY ahead of its time since the 6th This thread have lots of similarities with older ones. I will try to find another post I've made in one of them
Well I still play UO at freeshards. Not because they are pir... errr... free, but because you can max every skill.
Spectrum: Monty Mole Outrun (the loading in between stages was a bit of a git on a 48k though) Amiga: Stunt Car Racer Shadow of the Beast Xenon 2 R Type Buggy Boy Speedball 2 Super Cars & Super Cars 2 Syndicate Turrican 1 & 2 Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge 2 Super Nintendo: Street Fighter 2 Super Bomberman, but you need a multitap, 4 pads, 4 friends & intoxicants to make it really fun. Secret of Man's.
A few that I haven't spotted, apologies for any reposts. In no particular order: Gunship 2000 Bloodwych Wolfenstein 3D Space Hulk Planescape Torment (installed on my netbook) Baldur's Gate (installed on my netbook) Forsaken (multiplayer on the N64 was awesome) Wing Commander: Privateer (installed on my netbook) Strike Commander Unreal (where my 3DFX Voodoo 2 truly shone!) PT-109 688 Attack Sub Tie Fighter (much more polished than X-Wing, I preferred it) I reckon that's enough for now, I could easily add way too many more. Gunsmith, at the time Goldeneye came out it was revolutionary. Split screen 4 way multiplayer on a console just hadn't been a viable option up until then as most of the (very few) games that used it were pretty naff. For its time Goldeneye was truly epic. Perfect Dark was definitely an improvement on that but Goldeneye was the flagship game of the N64 console when it came out. I spent many a happy hour fragging my mates on that game - nobody else prox mined the ceilings and they always forgot that I never put a mine here they could see it easily. Many a happy unattended kill resulted (as well many bruises on me from being punched) and it's still a very fond memory. Oddjob was banned, particularly if you went for a slap fight as you couldn't hit the little git!
Argh, hate to correct someone i agree with but you mean Nick-Nack I know exactly of what you speak since we always made the missus play as him because she's a short arse
Wing Commander, Wolfenstein 3D, Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, Zool... Whilst most of my mates in the late 80s and early 90s were lucky enough to own consoles, I had to make do with PC games. There were some real gems , I remember sinking literally 100+ hours into OMF: 2097 - I can still hear the menu music now! This post makes me feel every bit as old as I am, and also very nostalgic for those big old pixels!
My mate and I have just started playing Diablo 2: LOD again! After fixing the resolution to support widescreen it's as awesome as it always was. You tend to forget about the notably **** graphics because the gameplay is so good. In fact, the strategy with some of the classes (e.g. assassin) is better than you'd find with most contemporary ARPGs. Plus with the new game coming up, I figured it'd be cool to play through the previous games as it's been almost 10 years since playing it.
