So the time is approaching when my new car should finally arrive so I'm looking for a relatively quick turn around on my existing car, a Ford Focus LX Estate 1.8 Petrol. The last time I sold a car which is around 7 year ago I sold it view a car forum I belongs to cheap as its head gasket went and I wan rear ended shortly after a new gasket was fitted (long story short it was a write off so I took the money, kept the car, fixed cheap and sold on). Now I'm back in the needing to sell situation I'm looking for my best options to sell quick where I'm not paying silly fee's for advertising. My local garage who's done all my work over the years will give me around £600 for it if I'm desperate but going rate seems closer to £1200-1000 for the mileage and the recent work I've done to it. So where should I advertised? Thoughts? (I plan to list in the MP on here just in case too lol)
Please do not use GumTree. I tried selling stuff on there and all you get is time waster after time waster. eBay is worth a look but the fees aren't very reasonable. if you are on FaceeBook then using the local selling groups on there can be useful, just be prepared for the low ball offers and people thinking you're desperate to sell it.
And I'd say don't bother with we buy any whatever dot whatever... I was offered £100 for an old golf - it died a year later and I got £150 for scrap...
ebay can work well, and you can get away with paying no fees if they pay cash (which at that amount they would probably be okay doing) - not that I condone that of course....
I'd only use Autotrader personally - yes you have to pay to advertise but that's it. Gumtree and Facebook you'll get time wasters, ebay you have to pay fees and that's about it really.
Put an add in your local newsagents window....costs about £1 a week these days.....at least if you get a response it will be localised to your area rather than people moaning that they have driven 200 miles to see the car.
My last experience with AT was just as full of morons as Gumtree etc. I now use eBay exclusively, had good results selling a few sheds on there in the last 12 months.
If Auto Trader is anything like Loot used to be then yeah, you get an awful lot of messers. AT is mainly dealers looking for stock and looking to pay practically nothing. Or people profiteering by buying cheap cars and selling them on. I've got a few mates who do it and they're real aholes when it comes to what they will pay. They'll usually contact you first thing in the morning when your ad goes live. So you get an advance warning.
I put my car on Autotrader; a 2002 1.4 Golf for 1000 quid. Less than 24 hours later I had 800 quid in my pocket and an empty driveway. The guy was a little pushy when it came to price and he was obviously looking to sell it on, so naturally I didn't inform him of any niggly issues that I would have told a nice buyer. I had a buttload of calls all day though, pain in the arse when riding a motorbike, even with a bluetooth headset!
