I need to get a psu for a build for my bro in law. Its only going to be a basic web surfer and nad childrens gamer so I don't need anything over powered. Build will comprise of a Asus M3AA78-T and an Athlon II X4 620 using the onboard gpu and a Samsung 320gb F1. I at first was considering just getting the Cooler Master Elite 330 case sold with their own 460w psu, I have read threads from people who have built using this PSU and not had any problems but I was wondering if I would be better going for say a Corsair CX400. I am working on a really tight budget here and personally I would never skimp on a psu for one of my own builds but this is far from high end. Any thoughts. Thanks
Yeah, I'd just go with the cheaper one if it's only for web surfing etc. Coolermaster PSUs are normally pretty reliable, certainly better than generic OEM PSUs, and as you're on a tight budget you can hardly argue with the value of it.
Yeh thats the one I was looking at but ebuyer have it for £57, how can play sell it that cheap or have they made an oops somewhere and the psu isn't part of the deal. The case itself usually retails for £25-30 alone, it does say RRP is £59.99 though. Might have to drop them an email dont want to order it and get stuck with just the case at £29.99 when I can get the case for £23 on scan.
my girlfriend is running the PSU that came with the coolermaster elite 330, and preforms her E7400 and ATI 4850 perfectly fine for gaming.
Thanks for all the advice. I went for the Corsair in the end and when I recieved it this morning I was most pleased, its a weighty item which is always a good sign IMO. Stangely enough the pc I have just built for my brother in law is not far off the gaming pc that was featured in this months mag. I had already decided to use the MSI mobo and the Elite 330 (albeit that was the case of the media pc), the article helped sway me towards the CX400 and the 240 cpu, was toying with the idea of the 620 but it would have pushed me over the very strict budget of £300. I also substituted the 260 for a 9600GT as it won't be used much for gaming, just an older version of MS flight simulator. It seems very snappy and will be perfect for its new owner.
