I'm going to be making a Small HTPC and so only need windows and vlc player on it so 15-20Gb should be enough. The smallest I can find are ebuyers 30Gb OCZ drives (onyx, vertex) are there any other suggestions?
May I ask how come you want it so small? Do you have other drives for all your data I assume? If so I would probably suggest nothing smaller than 60gb just to give it chance to have a decent amount of space free to allow good garbage collection etc. Something like this? or this?
64gb Crucial m4 would be my recommendation but it isn't as fast as the 128gb version. I would also say that 30gb is a bit small.
Perhaps look used for a 60GB Vertex 2E or 64GB Crucial C300. I would imagine both could be picked up for around £50 now.
If all you need is OS and some very basic programs, then I'd go for a 30gb or so SSD. Think intel did a 40gb model. Tis what I did for my media pc, 30gb OCZ Core V2 boot drive, then 2 2tb storage drives.
I have a Patriot Torqx2 32gb as my htpc boot. It performs ok for a small drive, but it is small. Still not bad at all for a bargain $45 ssd.
My desktop had a 32gb Corsair V32 and it was too tiny with even just Windows 7 on it, it was always bugging me about low space. Trust me, you'll be glad you got a 60/64gb one.
