I have unexpectedly been given an extra £200 for my build. I plan to use this for an SSD. Which one would you buy?
OCZ Technology 120GB Vertex 3 due out tomorrow... http://www.dabs.com/products/ocz-te...le&utm_medium=product+search&utm_content=Q200
Id wait till its been fully reviewed before buying it though, but theres a good preview of it here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4186/ocz-vertex-3-preview-the-first-client-focused-sf2200
except the ibis and revo drives. also, theres a 60 quid premium on the vertex 3 over the vertex 2 which is bleedin scandalous if you ask me. get a c300 if you want bang per buck, or a vertex 3 if you really need the extra 2 seconds it'll save you
All those drives are is the Vertex 2 in RAID configurations, which knocks out TRIM, *and* you have to use a PCI-E slot. Why are you shocked that a drive thats nearly twice as fast commands a price premium?
because in real world use, it will be hardly noticeable. i'd wait till the rest bring out their versions and save a fortune personally, or just buy a c300 like i said earlier. the price of SSD's are supposed to be coming down, not going up! if you look at graphics cards for example, when a new 'fastest card ever' comes out, it is usually a similar price to the last 'fastest card ever' even though it is usually much quicker. the only thing that has changed with the vertex 3 is the controller so why would it be so much more? it won't cost any more to produce....it's probably cheaper due to having the manufacturing process already in place
Just ignore him. He's raging because he wants ultra cheap SSDs tomorrow and its not happening. The Vertex 3 120GB is the fastest SSD bar none and all the previews/reviews across the internet agree with me.
Its not me who wants an SSD???? I am just trying to give advice. It's up to the OP whether he wants to take it or not surely. there are arguments for and against any purchase, but it's better to hear both sides before committing. I would have thought thats what forums were for! Sometimes, bleeding edge tech isn't the way to go, not only because of the price premium you inevitably have to shoulder, but as Sandy Bridge just showed, reliability issues too.
