Im not a fan of JAVA apps, so I use Bit Tornado, its lightweight and simple. Good for people who game while downloading lots of stuff.

I use a Azureus, can't say I've ever tried any others. Azureus just does the job.

The actual download speed seems fine (well, it’s fairly slow, but that’s what I was expecting) – it’s my actual PC speed that grinds to a halt. Like I said above, the Java app and Azureus use a total of roughly 50% of my CPU.

The other annoying thing is that 9 times out of 10, whenever I’m running Azureus, and then try to play a video or use my TV card, the desktop resolution goes mental (seems to blow up the top-left (25%) portion of the screen (see pic below)). I presume this is a software problem, as I have noticed that whenever I start/close Azureus, the whole screen quickly flashes (something to do with the Java app taking control of the video?)

I’m pretty sure both apps are up-to-date as I only downloaded Java a few weeks back, and Azureus was installed a few days before I posted the original message…

    Any ideas?

I installed the latest version of JAVA before using another java app, and it used about half of my 2.6Ghz, which is just taking the piss really. Switch to an OS specific client would be my advice.

I've just switched to ABC on this recommendation and it's downloading a lot faster on average than I could get Azureus to. Thanks dude :)
It's nice and simple too which is a bonus.

Well it looks like I’ll be switching clients as soon as my current downloads have finished – Azureus is killing my PC!
Had it running all last night, woke up this morning and my PC had slowed down soooo much (ie, when I clicked on my ‘Firefox’ quicklaunch icon, it took at least 2 minutes to even show the button animation!!!).
Thing is, at this stage of slowness, both Azureus and the Java client were using no more than 10% CPU time each..?!

Maybe your hard disks had just shut down for the night?

But I do agree, Azureus is a bit of a greedy app, resource-wise. I think I'll try something else when I get around to it, but for now Azureus will do.

Azureus causes extreme lag on a lot of the computers that I've seen it on... try BitComet instead :)

All power management settings are disabled, so it can't be that...

Ah well, just gotta wait till the 4Gb of stuff has finished, then I'll switch clients.

I use Azureus religiously. True, it is a bit of a hog, but getting a gig of ram fixed that. As far as the slow connections go, Azureus will dl just as fast as any other programs.
