Could anyone share their opinions as to what 19" lcd has the best match to these characteristics for the least price?

    -DVI input (can be dvi/vga)
-nice-looking bezel (thin, single color, no ugly speakers/logos/controls)
-easy to work with/good pic quality & motion response

I plan on using it for gaming and video editing so good motion response as well as good color response is a plus -- I am looking to spend around 250USD or less.

    Thanks in advance!

Well, I'd say Samsung 940b. Although it's more like $285, so it might be to expensive for you

I'd highly recommend Samsung screens; not used a 19" personally but the two others that I've had experience with have been fantastic.

Got a Samsung 730BF, and it works like a charm. And I've used a 940b. Lovely monitors, as I said :p

the 940b sure looks nice, but it is a tad too expensive for me. I was looking for something in the $200-240ish price range that with shipping would be not a great deal over $250, although I could probably stretch a little.

if you can stretch enough to afford the 940b, do so, and get it.

Haven't looked at prices in a while, but look at NEC monitors as well. I think NEC actually has higher quality monitors than Samsung. Also, DELL has some awesome deals sometimes.

Not sure how useful this comment will be, but I'd seriously question getting a 4:3 monitor these days. I'd go for a 20inch 16:10. Games are better, DVDs are better.. they look cool, and give you more lateral deskspace. They're getting very affordable too.

Definately agree with Pookeyhead, 20" widescreen is the way to go, games do look that much better on them :D

Unfortunately, Widescreen and Value are mutually exclusive terms - a decent 19" LCD will run about $300 - The Dell 2005/2007 runs around $533. Since he's running on a value oriented budget, we should probably try to look for a 19" LCD - and not convince him to break the bank ;)

There are much cheaper options than the dell tho. The Viewsonic 2012W springs to mind... it's around £320. You can easily pay that for a 19 inch 4:3, and it's really good too.

He mentions video editing too.. Being so mucg closer to 16:9 is useful for that as well. Yes, they can cost a little more, but I still think it's worth doing.

Thanks for the recommendations, I think I'm going to go ahead and upgrade my components now, and then save up for some kind of 16:10 monitor (getting one now would be pointless, my current graphics card can barely push 1024x768 in HL2).

I know that they are really expensive, but I'd like to get a Dell sometime, if only because they are the prettiest monitors I've ever seen... clean, thin, no ugly huge logos or buttons or crap to deal with -- good job by their design team.

i have a samsung 913n, no DVI and probs seen as old technology now i guess but its great and i can imagine you would get one pretty cheap too. 8ms response time anda 1:500 contrast ratio if my memory serves me correctly, it could be 1:600 though not to sure

I went for the Acer 19" Widescreen AL1916W, no DVI unfortunately, although it states on the acer website it's optional, mayb shop around and u'll find one with DVI input. It has some impressive features for the price, brightness : 350 cd/m2, contrast ratio : 500:1, response : 8ms, viewing angle 170,170 and at an unbeatable price of £170.45 inc VAT from ebuyer.co.uk.

Haven't tried gaming on it yet, i'll give u a heads up when i do if u want.
