Hi everyone, Battlefield 3 is out next month and I need a new rig. Only problem is I am skint at the moment and want to build a new rig on an i5 2500 chip. I already have a £200 corsair case so won't need a case included in the price but could someone list the best components I need so I can build a good gaming pc? I appreciate your help, I'm just looking for the best value for money kit at the same time keeping the performance high Kind regards Ross
I'd have a look through Parge's BF3 build advice thread, and keep the recommended specifications in mind too.
What is in your current build, and what is your budget? That would help quite a lot. In terms of graphics cards, if you want to be maxing it a 560Ti is probably the minimum you will get away with at 1920*1080 resolutions, if lower res then a lower card may be able to provide the same performance. Then standard 4gb or 8gb RAM kit, Asus Xonar DS (this may be a game that really makes use of sound cards for once), MSI p67-gd53, psu, gelid tranquillo for the CPU (or just use the stock cooler if you get the retail version) etc. Do some research.
Iv got a core 2 duo at the mo so am going to start fresh, the £1000 build one of the guys posted on here sounds really good I might go for that and somehow get a loan or something lol battlefield 3 best be worth it!!!!!! Cheers Ross
If you want brand new, you can't go wrong with something like this. Knock £20 scansure off, and get 20 useful posts on here for the free delivery. It doesn't include Windows as I wasn't sure if you needed it nor not. And you can probably get a lot of that on Today Only specials to knock the price down
Cheers noizedaemon That looks a great value for money system, do you know if custom pc magazine reviewed the motherboard? As that's my only concern I wouldnt mind upgrading that as it's quite essential to get a good mobo. Also says most things are out of stock and have to preorder? Cheers Ross
^ is a good build. I personally would replace the Dark Rock Advanced with a Gelid Tranquillo, saves you about £15 for no appreciable difference on Sandy Bridge processors as they are pretty cool anyway. 570 to a 560Ti saves you £50, but it doesnt have as much longevity. Edit: as for the mobo, bit-tech reviewed it and it is highly praised.
Yeah I put the 570 in as I reckoned it'd be better value in the long run. And doesn't cost that much more. And I whacked in the Dark Rock as it was the first one I saw that I knew was decent
Cheers bede and noizdaemon I will stick to that deal, I forgot I need a monitor and windows 7 so all of a sudden it going to be pushed up to £1000 :-( just when I thought it was a bargain lol Ross
If you find one, I want one too lol But yeah, if you can, go for it, it'll be a good system for some time
Oh 1 last thing, is it not worth getting a z68 motherboard? there was a feature in last months Custom pc magazine and some of the boards got good reviews
Not really - they're overpriced and the features they bring aren't worth it. The msi p67-gd53 should cost you around £100, msi's z68 equivalent will probably cost an extra £30 minimum. If you're a student, or you know a student, you can get a copy of Windows 7 for £40. It's an upgrade copy but you can *legally* make it work on a fresh install, as long as at some point you've owned a license for a previous version of Windows.
Agree with Bede, no point in getting a Z68 board. Pay more for something no one will use? No thanks lol Oooh and +1 to getting a student copy if you can.
Oh yeah, forgot about that. The GD53 is end-of-line, as are (I think) P67 boards in general, so it might have to be z68.
