I played BF2 for about 2 years straight - literally the longest game I have played. I think I am finally catching up in MW time wise. What I found in BF2 is the hit system. The freaking stupid ass hit system. I had a decent ping 98% of the time <100 and I could not hit crap with the sniper rifle or nearly anything else. If they fix the hit system and get it as good as MW I would be so thrilled. Also I DETESTED the 15 second respawn time - and nearly EVERYONE played with default server settings. I liked to play the game - not sit and watch the game being played by someone else (I refuse to argue the implications of a wait time on a game, there is reasonable and unreasonable wait times and I don't like it plain and simply put)
Good man for being a veteran! people need to shout their bf2 love from the rooftops You needed a sub 80 ping really. 100 ping is really very laggy, where your controls feel all 'mushy'. Sub 60 was really the best, but my personal preference was to stay away from servers where I couldnt get less than 50. If you cut the respawn times it would be pretty hard to cap flags, if their defenders could just endlessly reappear in waves.
I hope BF3 is on the same (large) scale as BF2. BFBC2 is awesome, but is deffo a little smaller scale than BF2. So i hope then bring back the massive maps with 64 players for BF3.
the only large enough map for more than 32 player gameplay is Heavy Metal. and that has problem of not enough cars to go around. Oasis, Harvest Day, that winter rush map are all pretty small. im very excited for 64bit, tessellation and full Dx11 support though. looks like DICE will be the new CryTech, but with good multiplayer gameplay.
errrmm new maps????!! Ive seen a map pack where they just changed the game modes of some of the existing ones. Please tell me they have entirely new maps ready for me to download?
4 completely new maps. two are from BFBC1, Oasis with great conquest shotty action, but terrible chopper spawn position for defenders (in front of MCOM?). Harvest Day is fantastic in both modes. two are completely new, reworked singleplayer maps. Heavy Metal is from the tank level, huge map tank/chopper originated, and it is brilliant! Cold War is a rush-only map, very compact, and very hard to attack for attackers, and it's a CG heaven due to they can hide in a house, and fire their CG down on people, while normal gun users find it hard to get to them. what i want is more maps like Heavy Metal conquest in BF3. vehicle dominated gameplay, with appropriate weapons to take out those vehicles.
ok... about jets... lol i love them. i kidna suck at them, i know alot of people hates them, and if i got my groove (and nobody's better manning the other team's jet) i carpet-bombed (literally) the whole game. but my most played map?karkand. lol... why? coz jets have its own place, and its not sth i would aim for evry single round. and so, im not asking for all maps to have jets. im not askign to have 3 jets each side on every round. im not even asking to make it more jet friendly at all. point is, jet was there in BF2, some people love it, some people hate it. but every players love BF2. with or without jet. then i tried other FPS, like BFBC2. guess what i miss? the frantic run when i see a jet coming and the stupid rush to get a jet, and the pain of being shotdown the first 5 seconds after u take off after waiting for 10 minutes to get a turn... jets in BF2 series IMHO are like women. cant live without them, cant live with them. yet im married now. so i want jets. other than that; i must say blackhawk pilot who can circle control points ROCKS!! im much better with apache but BH is the key for good teamplay. good BF pilot >>>>>> uber jet pilot. i miss my BH too edit: ping wise, i usually get 30-70 and i have no problem hitting people with a sniper. funny thing is, i played mostly 64 people and i cant remember having lag issue even with a 2-3 folks hitting 1000+ ping... that some good network on dedicated servers. man now i wanna install BF2 again. and like other people has said, yes, ill b happy even if they just updated BF2 into BF2.5. such a good game. no other FPS multiplayer has touched it in the past few years. CoD and MoH are fun for a few rounds pick up and kill unless ur high, but BF2 was a whole different animal.
BF2 everything else, hit reg was a issue but hey just have to pray to the gods to get hit reg or find a german server
I personally want the majority of BF2 maps to make a come back in BF3. Such classics as Mashtuur City, Gulf of Oman, Karkand, Wake Island, etc. And the jets were only a problem if your own jet pilots weren't doing their jobs! I wasnt any good at flying them but would hate to see them removed in BF3. 64 player maps are a must!
Is BF2 still going strong? It's ancient now! I reinstalled about 4 months ago and it seemed to have declined alot but was good fun to play. Still haven't bothered with BC2 but might give it a whirl if BF3 is still way off...
Dude seriously, your missing out if you dont try BFBC2. Ok, its not as 'epic' as BC2. But trust me, it is, really really good. If you liked BF2, then you will like this.....Plus there is a Vietnam add on coming in a few weeks. It might be a while for BF3 so give it a whirl!
http://www.gamepriceuk.com/products.php?q=Battlefield+Bad+Company+2+PC Found that for listings of cheaper prices. Don't know if stores have it cheaper, but might be an option for you. BC2 is definately worth checking out.
Ahh cheers for that. Pretty certain I saw it under the 2 for £25 deal in Game - I'm a bit behind with games atm so I check prices and try and scoop a mini deal.
I've never played ANY Battlefield games! Having said that, I am muchly looking forward to BF3, as I've always been tempted by the idea. Currently, however, I fear it will be a race against time to see if I can get a computer that'll play it before it comes out! I've only got to finish my degree, graduate, find a job, save up enough, and put it all together...should be no problem
