Hi All, So i'm looking into some proper bike insurance, and asking for some advice as to what to look for. It's a Mountain Bike that i use primarily to commute to work on road, It's securely locked up at home, And at work, it's locked up, but a colleague's bike was stolen 2 weeks ago from the same spot that i lock up, which is in a gated loading yard (The yobs climbed the wall, cut the lock, and chucked it back over the wall) We had business protection visit yesterday, temp solution is to apply anti climb paint to the walls, but for added security, i want to get a new lock, and insure my bike properly. So yeah, Who's best, what do i look for? Any advice welcome. Cheers, Sam
If you have a home contents policy, first thing would be to check cover and limits through that, and if they're not up to scratch, any charges for increasing the cover.
I cover all my bikes under my home insurance, basically they took the value of the most expensive bike and covered my 3 bikes based on new replacements for them all. I had coverage against theft away from home providing they were secured using a lock on their 'list'. Ultimately if somebody wants to steal it all you can hope to do is slow them down! The price was significantly more than my car insurance though (£52 vs £33) based on the value of the bikes. There are specialist insurance companies for bikes, but the price came in around the same for me so rather than have another policy it made sense to had them to the home cover.
