He believes he can do no wrong, and therefore he did nothing wrong.

See also: The [in his words] 'perfect' phonecall that got him impeached the first time.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall when his ****ed-up version of reality finally comes crashing down around him.

I gotta admit I was wrong. After he got away with what he did which led to the first impeachment, I thought there wasn't really anything else he could do that would get him in deep trouble. He really pushed the envelope.

To be fair, they do appear to just be letting him off the hook for the unmitigated catastrophe that was the Georgia phone call where he asked for votes to be "found" in his favour... so you are still kind of right.

I couldn't quite understand him getting off the first time, like, they had a phone call where he was doing the thing he was accused of, then went out to the press and boasted about it, then they were like yeah but nah. A constitutional crisis should have occurred where the checks and balances put in place were reassessed as unfit for purpose as the founding fathers never imagined parties to be so partisan to their leaders. But I guess they get another go at it now.

The vote in the Senate went along partisan lines killing the first impeachment without the evidence mattering one iota.

You need a 2/3 majority in the senate, plus the 2 senators from the Georgia run-off likely iirc don't get sworn in/join the senate until after the vote is likely to take place.

So, in short, the senate maths is still not in their favour unless a lot of republicans break and vote to remove trump.

Hence why this is more about stopping him coming back in 2024 than getting him out the door now...

...and a judge has ruled in his favour. He will receive organic food while under arrest...

The BBC are now saying that as many as 20 Republican Senators will vote to impeach (The vote needs all Democrats + 17 Republicans to pass)

Unfortunately, voting to impeach and voting to convict are two entirely different things. Lets see if those GOP senators have the spine to follow up.

    True enough.

Impeachment can still continue after he has left office, AFAIK he will have to be convicted in order to lose his $200k a year lifetime pension, $1million a year travel and Security detail perks.

There will also have to be a second vote (simple majority) to prohibit him from holding public office in the future (Trump has said he'd run again in 2024).

He also said he'd get Mexico to build a wall.

I'm sure all those MaccaDs will catch up with him at some point.

I reckon I'll be able to run again in 2024...

Too much lockdown junk food and not enough willpower.

IIRC the House vote is the vote to impeach, the senate vote is the vote to convict [and remove].

Even if it falls short in the Senate like it did last time, he'll still have been impeached twice.
