This is so dumb, so you "buy" this but they control what you can do with it. Sounds more like renting to me.

    I've lost faith in Nintendo

    Don't BUY IT THEN

Jesus christ. Nintendo aren't the only company doing such a thing.

According to Eurogamer Nintendo has officially "not" commented on Destructoid's article. Basically neither confirmed, nor denied the existence of this feature, or the capabilities of this feature because "They don't discuss security measures".

No they aren't, but forgive people for having some annoyance at it. We're allowed to have that, you know?

Why are you allowed it? You as a consumer have a simple choice whether to buy it not.

You are right about that, consumers vote with their money. If you don't like it don't buy it. It does suck that a company does this, I hope their business suffers

    Way ahead of ya.

I'll be over here wasting my money on slightly less pointless things (i.e. everything that isn't a handheld console).

What if you were intrested in the device only to find that it had all this DRM on? Fairly certain they're allowed that. I've always been intrested in the DS as a handheld little gizmo BUT never been in the market for a Nintendo unit (I'm a PC geek through and through).

I was looking forward to seeing what wierd and wonderful things you could do on the 3DS and now if this kind of thing was implimented (it won't by the look of it anyway) it would throw a right old spanner in the worlds.

So yes Pieface, I am allowed that bit of "Oh for god sakes" about a console.

I agree. The "if you don't like it, don't buy it" argument is as tired as it is mistaken: there are plenty of things that I like some features of but not others, and there's nothing out of place or unwarranted in complaining about them. See also: Assassin's Creed 2's DRM on PC. Nobody bought it but everyone complained about it. Should they have just stopped whining since they weren't buying it? No, of course not, because they were interested potential customers.

Surely the person who's spending his money on slightly less pointless things can also see, though, that it's a bit frivolous to complain because a video game you wanted has some features you don't like.

Assuming I can speak for Pieface, the "don't like it, don't buy it" is not a be-all-end-all statement, it's a generalization. It's certainly not that people can't be disappointed that the game they wanted isn't really everything they were hoping for. The problem is that several comments have a much more toxic tone, whinging about Nintendo or their decisions isn't going to get games displaying in 3D any faster.

No, that's true. I'm very careful not to generalize these individual points into complaints about a company, genre or platform generally - it's just illogical. As a specific complaint about the console, though, this is pretty valid (if true).

Slipping into huge generalizations for a moment, though, I wouldn't have thought that Nintendo would be the company to do this. They're generally the least DRM-concerned, historically, and they have their image as a big, huggy, family-friendly company to preserve.

The problem that is, is that piracy and Nintendo haven't been as big an issue, until these R4 cards came in. These R4 cards brought in piracy, easily to people who own a DS.

Nintento have never stuck me as huggy more the most miserly wretched games company I've ever see; no-one milks the cash cow more than nintendo does (this is the 4th generation of the same console for goodness sake).

Yeah, the PSP never kept re releasing the console, nor did PS3 or Xbox...

    Oh wait, Yeah they did!

I like how there's a recent trend of companies dictating how we must use the products we purchase from them. It's amusing too, that they reserve the "Right" to render your property inoperable if you don't dance to their tune.

I couldn't really be called a fan boy when I've owned a 360 (Was something like 5th on the Bit-Tech leaderboard, before that shut down), PS3, Wii, PS2, Xbox, N64, Gamecube, PSP, Mac, PC, PS1, Sega Saturn etc.

I just don't think people should spout BS when there's nothing to back it up.

Another thought about this streetpass thing and the fact that you cant turn off the wi-fi, does this mean that it cant be taken on a plane ever if it in the hold since its going to be transmitting constantly.

    Just a thought...
