    Hi All,

I've done my nut in looking on the net if there ever was one made.

My mate assures me when buying his LG Blu-Ray/HD-DVD Drive some years back, LG had designed a slimline version for the laptops.

So just wanted to know with the infinite knowledge on this forums, if there was such a drive and what model no. was it?

Alternatively, any slime (2.5") blu-ray/hd-dvd combo drive will suffice, can live without writers, as need it for HTPC build.

Please Obit-tech Kanobi, your my only hope. :D

Google is not my friend today. LOL

I'm afraid you've provided me with a link to a Blu-Ray/DVD slim drive, when I am looking for a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD combo drive. :duh:

As per title, it is a challenge. The DVD combo drives are dime a dozen. Looking for a HD-DVD/Blu-ray combo drive.

    Anyone?

Ahhh, sorry, I thought it was a typo seeing as HD-DVD is a dead duck.

I checked LG's website but they are discontinued. Have you tried fleabay?

Maybe a cheaper option is to buy a large (i.e. non-pc) HD-DVD player and rip all the movies to a more compatible format?

Thats fine, doesn't matter if they are discontinued. Not a problem, as I'll try to find a used one on fleabay or forums etc.

But really need to know the model no. of what I'm looking for.

Don't wanna even consider the alternative of converting.:(

Can't fit the full sized LG drive thats still available, as my Silverstone SG06 case won't take it.

After days on google and forums, I've come across this thread from a US site. It seems back in 2008, HP had an option of adding a slim blu ray player that also played HD-DVD's!

This is the only whiff of of any such Drive that ever existed! :jawdrop:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/what-notebook-should-i-buy/208070-hp-blu-ray-drive-really-plays-hddvd-too.html

But I can't seem to get the model no. for it. It was used in some HP Pavillion dv9700t & HDX notebooks. During my search I came across a picture of the bare drive showing the model no. etc., but lost it. :sigh:

If you guys can help me try to find this, I'm prepared to give a little reward. A thankyou item. :thumb:

Ok I think you are looking for chicken's teeth now! After spending a LONG time looking I came up with jack :(

This may help, it says the Asus G2S laptop came with both BR and HD-DVD but after looking for one with it, I just couldn't. You would have thought that would have been a LARGE selling point.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HD_DVD_devices

Here is the G2S range, it just isn't there.

I think what you are looking for may not exist. Some laptops came with either a BD Drive or a HD-DVD drive.

Alternatively, can I use the normal 5.25" lg combo in the silverstone SG06 case?

Which has the space for the big drive, but only a slim slot.

Was thinking I will position the drive so the slot is aligned with tray (guessing the width is the same for slim and full) and change/strip/cut the tray slot at the front, so the tray goes in and out in the right position, but thet rest of the unit is positioned wherever it needs to be, not necessarily aligned with any rack or internal caddy?
