    Hi everyone,

I'm currently ordering components for a new computer (first time building one myself and don't know much) and I am led to believe that my biggest component is my motherboard so that's the deciding factor on how big my case should be.

    The motherboard's dimensions are:

    30.4cm(L) x 24.5cm(W) ATX Form Factor

So I'll need a case that has a width of at least 24.5cm? This seems quite big and a lot of the cases I have looked at have been nowhere near this. I need to find the cheapest case I can (preferably with two fans wherever and audio and mic' jacks on the front) that's quite well made and won't fall apart.

    Any suggestions or thoughts?

    Cheers.

look for ATX form cases then. check scan.co.uk ebuyer.co.uk then go on cases and look for the ATX cases i think on scan there high performance cases or something but have a look on them sites.

ATX is a standard for this very reason... any ATX case will fit an ATX motherboard.

pretty much any of the cases that don't specifically say mATX on scan.co.uk would be perfectly fine.

As barndoor said, ATX is a standard, most PC cases will fit an ATX motherboard as long as it isn't designed for one of the smaller versions: mATX, ITX.

The cheapest case on scan is £15, but likely to be rubbish.

check out the Antec 300 case. its one of the best cheapest cases on the market. dont go really cheap on the case because the cooling of it will be rubbish.

Lots of the ATX cases are too small.

Carper, thanks, but that Antex 300 is 205mm(W) and my motherboard is 245mm(W), so it's not big enough.

that would mean that the case is not to spec, and therefore shouldnt be called an ATX case. you would only get this problem if you were buying a 10 pound case.

Are you sure you're looking at the right dimensions? The Coolermaster 330 is 203x413x486, the 203 is the width, motherboards are fitted along the depth and height dimensions.

I'm a firm believer in getting a case for any future plans and not worrying about the size. Hence I got the Coolermaster Stacker 832, i'm not saying get this particular one.

But there are future worries about being to small and also getting a case that would last a long time and having good cooling as well as future modding.

    O...

    :wallbash:

    Facepalm.

I was looking at the width of the case and comparing it to the width of the motherboard.

Barndoor 101, I had no idea which way the motherboard fitted in.

So the width of the motherboard fits along the length of the case and the length of the motherboard fits along the height of the case?

    Can you tell I'm new...

    :D
