I just fitted my fan bus and a big spark came off it as i was putting it in the case then the system died. I've mounted my fan bus in a steel face plate so i prosume that its live but how can i stop this from happening so that i cna mount it in my case
Maybe try turning off the computer, even though it means that you will be away from bit-tech for a minute or two.
the computer died so i turned it back on and here i am trying to work out how to mount the thing i need ideas would putting the piece of think plastic behind it work or are the switches them selfs live. Its a pcmods one bought it a while back
Then you'll have to look for places where the + wires can be touching a ground wire or the computer chassis.
i know i got a short but how do i sort it its the fanbus but the only things that touch the mettel are the switches :-\ so i dunno what i cand o
how many switches have you got? which terminal of the switch is connected to the switch housing? This terminal needs to be gnd and the outher your 12V/7V/5V Make sure all the switches are wired the same Meblin
if the switch is of the "metal arm" type... (or whatever you call it) the center connection is often (specially on the cheap ones) in contact with the arm itself... this is becase the arm is metal.. and it as a little tap that just slides over the "contact plate".. (hard to explain.. but believe me.. i have taken o few apart... ) if the switches is in contact with th positive (as i assume it it because it probably switches between 12 and 5 volts or something) then the whole matel boty of the swich becomes connected to positive... negative is often on the case... with the plastic front you are ok cus' this insulates.. but with a metal fron you make a connection...
yeah i tested the switches with a Multimetre and 3 of them are ok and 1 of them is 12v ive go 4 switches on it It like th 6 switch on on the site but with 4 its well old now dug it out my box
The PCmods ones shouldn't short unless you plugged all six fly leads in and not into six fans? Like ours the 3 pin male KK connectors are live and can short on case.
but one of the switches is live ( i had to talk him thru using a dmm) but its probably just a bblob of solder or a ded switch
Is it possible that somewhere a live wire is touching your case and when you put it in, it completes the circuit?
Yes - thats what I was getting at but eliminating the possibilty of the live flyleads being a problem.. would take a look for a minimal charge as a hexus user?
