Hey everyone, Sorry for such a lame post.. i just built my new system, a DFI Lan Party SLI-D, AMD 64 4000 system. worked fine, until i updated the bios to the latest version using the NVTune program. It said it worked fine while in windows - and then i rebooted. now nothing happens. No post screen, no noises. just fans coming on and nothing else happening. Is there anything I can do to fix it? :/ -al.
I'd reset the cmos. Basically unplug from power, set the cmos jumper to its other location, leave for a minute or so, set it back to what it was, plug back in then power up.
Ok, I did that, and it booted. - went straight into the CMOS, and turned off the CPU heat throttling. then rebooted, and it did the same thing! just resetting the CMOS again and seeing what happens
reset the cmos, and if that actually gets you booting to at least post, try flashing the bios the old fashioned way using a floppy? (of course assuming you actually own a floppy drive still)
Nope, i dont have a floppy drive.. I'll see if i can get it booted (didnt work just then, so trying to leave the CMOS for longer this time) and download and reflash using an older bios.. ergh.
It's a different ballgame when it's a DFI . What you need to do is follow this procedure to the letter, leaving it for about 4 hours or so in the middle section. You should then be able to boot up OK... if that doesn't work, try an 8 or 24-hour clear. For reference, NEVER use any Windows-based flash things on a DFI, nor nTune or any NVIDIA-related overclocking software. They really, really hate it.

Ok, It seems to be a ram problem? I've had to remove one of my sticks of ram and now it boots.. i could get it to boot every now and then with both sticks in.. ho hum.
Well.. long story. I'm using G.Skill 'HZ' 2gb (2x1) DDR400 ram. I built the PC yesterday, any put my Ram in slots 1 and 2. - Ram was detected fine, and obviously it wasnt running in Dual Channel mode. So, I put the stick from slot 2 into 3 - to run Dual Channel mode - and everything worked fine. I installed windows, updated my graphics drivers, rebooted, updated my sound drivers, rebooted, updated windows to SP2, and rebooted - everything working fine. Then i decided to be clever and update the bios. 'worked fine' - so I rebooted.. ..It wouldnt turn on. I tried lots of things, and posted on here. It seemed that if I set my Reset CMOS jumper and unplugged the PC for 5 mins - then it would boot, but it would then not restart. so, i tried that guide you showed me - and it booted (with the one stick of ram in slot 2) so i tried putting both sticks of ram back in - and it didnt boot. three little diag LEDs - which means bad memory i think. took the 'bad' stick out - and back in action. no combination of slots seems to make it work. also, rebooting takes a while longer than it did at first, it seems to sit for about 10 seconds after the keyboard lights flash, just doing nothing. I've had this ram in my other PC (Barton 3000xp machine) running fine for months now. Any ideas?
Try the ram in your other PC to see whether the sticks are good (also rum memtest on them for 1-2hrs). Once you've eliminated the ram use a working module to test each of the memory slots in the DFI to see if any of them are faulty. My DFI went down with my Ram a couple of months back. I couldn't tell whether the board killed the ram or the ram killed the board but the upshot was that one pair (orange and yellow) of memory slots stopped working and one module of ram was borked. PS This should be in Tech Support!
Right. Just put the 'broken' stick of ram in slot 1 - and it works. so i have a stick in slot 1 and 2, running in non-dual channel mode. Does that mean the other two memory slots are buggered?
Just to confirm, you should use the orange slots rather than the yellow ones. Did you try switching the sticks over (ie put stick in slot 1 -> slot 3, and then slot 3 -> slot 1) Are you able to test other ram in the mobo too, and the CPU in another mobo? It could well be the case that either the slots are dead on the board, or the memory controller on the CPU is shot. Are you also saying, the machine boots after a clear cmos ok, but won't boot the second or any subsequent times (or did i read things wrong?) As for bios flashing, flashed ~ 20 different bioses to this SLI-D using Winflash, didnt have any issues at all...
Tried both in every slot. 3 and 4 just aren't working. Not really able to test the CPU, but I've tested the ram and it's fine in my other machine. That was the case, but it boots every time now. Alright for some.. hehe.
Alex - Looks like your MoBo is Broke! As if you need me to tell you that What arew the results of the Memtest? When did you buy it? Can you send it back? Can you inspect the mobo and look for any obvious damage? Have you followed static precautions during your build? Hope you find a fix m8t Matty Errrmmm Mods - BTW should this not be in the new Forum?
It worked fine before the bios flash, its now not working. Would suggest that the hardware itself is fine, and the resulting issues are due to the flash, rather than any underlying hardware problems
