The graphics card BIOS is like the motherboard BIOS - it's there on the graphics card when you buy it. BIOS stands for Basic Input Output System and it provides fundamental software functionality to enable the card to do its thing (as with the motherboard BIOS). Not such a good explanation, but I couldn't think of how to better word it.

You may wish to update the BIOS every now and then, but the card manufacturer generally provides a utility for this, so you'd just have to click through it and follow the prompts to do updates.

You do not necceserily (sp*) need to update the bios on your graphics card, especially if you are buying a new card cuz i think that they would already be flashed with the latest bios from the factory.

To get bioses for your card\mobo you have to go to the manufacturers website e.g if its an msi card you will have to go 2 http://www.msi.com etc.... Some boards have external bioses not made by the manufacturer such as http://www.dfi-street.com for DFI motherboards but these should only be used if you know what your doing and preferably have a BIOS Savior :thumb:

Just out of curiosity what graphics card are you planning on buying and how much does it cost? we bit-techers can help you get your moneys worth :D

Yeah, i seriously doubt that card will ever come for $181.

Hacking him is not going to do anything... enought with the script kiddy ideas... :blah:

Seriously, if he is scamming you, your never gonna hear from him again, to be honest, if it's too good to be true, then it is.

First, sorry for not responding, I was away for a couple of days, then busy with various engagements. Everyone else seems to have covered your questions about BIOS matters, though.

Secondly, from what I know, the difference between the X800XT and the Platinum Edition is the extra 'fruit' that you get (might be something like VIVO) and you won't actually get any difference in performance, only in functionality.

From what I understand, and I hope I do since I just bought one, the XT has more pipelines which means that the card can send more programs down and do more branching. This should improve performace on the card. But yes, the VIVO is a nice fruit that you get

Maybe they've just used the same picture for both there, I was sure that the PE had VIVO and the ATI Rage Theater chip whereas the vanilla XT didn't, that's why some of the VIVO Pros have XTPE stickers on them.

Oh, and I thought all the X800s had 1 D-Sub and 1 DVI connector?

    EDIT - From ati.com:

So maybe the XT is just a PRO but on PCI-E (which makes it so much faster it obviously deserves a rebadge :p) or something, or maybe it is just a clocked-down XTPE. Looking at the pic again, they're both PCI-E cards (didn't notice that before ;)) and that explains why they've got the dual DVI, as that was rumoured to be being kept back for the cards on the new bus.
