   My current motherboard was previously part of a sony vaio and now im having trouble overclocking my cpu and the bios wont really give me freedom to do anything. Is there any way to get around sony's protections?

   not unless you want to write a custom BIOS, which I doubt. You'll find the same problem on dell, hp, compaq, etc, etc, all of the OEMs.
