OK I have the Award BIOS. I downloaded the update from the motherboard website. I made a system boot disk, and put the *.BIN and the awdflash.exe on the floppy. Booted to the floppy disk and ran

    awdflash KVR1011.bin /cc /cd /cp /py /sn /cks /r

like it said in the motherboard book.

The awdflash program loads, A drive spins nonstop.. however no white blocks form or anything. I let it run all night to see if maybe I wasnt be patient enough. When I returned 6 hours later- nothing.

I am a newbie on updating BIOS so if there is something simple that I am doing, please bring that to my attention.

    Thank you in advance.

make sure the bios is for your mobo. do you really need to update it. if you can still boot up your pc then i would just leave it alone. the bios is nothing to play with, specially if it's giving you probs. there's no science to it, just start pc with floppy, type command in a: prompt and that's it, less than a minute for the whole process.

Yes, I do need to update it. I am having problems reading/writing to a certain block in the BIOS which is giving me sudden hard lock ups in Windows XP. I used Event Viewer to check it out to be the BIOS. I did the BIOS update just like it said to..and I got the right update from the mobo site. I just dont understand why it doesnt load the file.. the flash writer program loads just fine but when it gets into the loading of the .bin file it just keeps spinning the floppy drive.. i dont understand.

I've sent an E-mail with a zip file attached to your website e-mail. Follow the instruction and then post back to let me know how you got on.

OK I re-installed Win XP pressing F7... as I read somewhere on the net. It was supposed to disable ACPI it never gave me a indication that it was disabled but when I shut-down it no longer just turns off. I did try that bios.zip that you sent me, thank-you. and i did try it on a different floppy. It gave me the message "unknown flash". If there is a way that I can update my BIOS and use ACPI then let me know because I like the feature in case the power turns off I have better chance of loosing my power supply.lol. The motherboard company is the one who told me to turn it off. It seems to be ok now as for freezing.

    Thanks guys.

Might be a bit late now, but some motherboards have a jumper or option in the bios to write protect the bios itself. I had that exact same problem and this is what it turned out to be.
