I built a pc for a friend, it had-
    Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Motherboard.
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz.

I want to build one for myself, but useing an-
    AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz Socket AM3+ ..and the same m/b.

CCL, tell me i need a bios update to make the two work together.
So how am i suposed to download a bios update, if thy dont work together in the first place.
    Am i missing something?

    Cheers

You'll need to get hold of an older CPU, something like an Athlon X2 or even a Sempron, update the BIOS and then you can install a newer CPU. If you ask CCL, they may be able to do it for you.

IF a company sell a motherboard as `compatible` then surely it must be out of the box or its false advertising

I just had a word with CCL tech dep'.
Thy say the m/b's thy sell have the F4 BIOS revision installed.
So i can fit an fx 6300, and it will work.

Incidentally 4gb memory from Crucial cost £46. Delivery asp
The same from Amazon cost £20, BUT delivery is between 1 month to 3 month::jawdrop:

Bought an Asrock motherboard with my Ivy Bridge CPU. It needed a BIOS update to function with that chip. I was assuming since I was buying the board pretty late after Ivy's availability that I would get a revision of the board with the correct BIOS but I was wrong.

Called up tech support and they mailed me out a BIOS chip, which I swapped no issue.

You might need to upgrade the bios first, especially if the CPU your putting in the motherboard is newer than the MB.
So if the CPU released in 2013 and MB in 2012 it very likely needs a bios update.
Some high end MBs can be upgraded via a USB drive, but without the correct or a recognised CPU its iincredibly difficult! I really had to try a lot of things before it updated correctly, but it can be done.

For the record it is not a good motherboard to use FX chips with, will throttle all the time due to lack of power delivery.

    Thank you for your inputs:)
Well, I thought i was all set to go, but from the last three inputs, i think i might indeed let Aria do an update for me.

Now then mrbungle, can you please give a few more details as to why you think the m/b is not
    suitable.
Can you give a better m/b to suit the FX 6300, bearing in mind, i allready have a case which is an mATX. Also, my pc will be just a 'familly' pc, and not for gaming

    Cheers
