The Apple Store in Birmingham's Bullring shopping centre opened on Friday - http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/bullring/week/20050501.html

Had I not been working, I'd have loved to have gone down for the opening with Powerbook in tow.

Has anyone else been yet? I know there's a few midlanders here that might do, GOO and RTT in particular.

I'm going to check it out tomorrow hopefully :)

I'm sure I'll take a look at some point in the near future... I'd have liked to go on Friday for the opening, but as I was in London I had to pick up my copy of Tiger from Regents Street. #7 in the queue. Sad, eh? :D

This is the only other Apple Store in the country mate, there's only two ;)

The other is in Regent Street in London, first in Europe even.

There are plenty of Apple Centres around though. Not owned by Apple though.

Wouldn't mind a gander myself, maybe me you and Tom can take a look next week some time ?

The store certainly looks pretty funky from the pics I found on the net.

    Photos and video available here:

Quite glad I didn't go down on the day to see it open, too many scary mac lovers :eeek: ... looks like they were queueing out of the bullring by quite some distance.

Went in yesterday and bought a Mini-DVI to Video adapter (very exciting, I know!) and again this morning on the way back home. Nice shop! Great layout and friendly and helpful staff. Answered a few trivial questions I had about some Tiger stuff and even got me on the Genius Bar to talk over some Airport troubles I'd had. Great stuff! The Apple dude pointed at my ByteController and was like 'That thing's great, I've got it on mine too!'.

I spent a good ten minutes drooling over the G5 with dual 30" screens.

    Gah...

Went to look the other day at the MacMini's and compare performance with the iMac and G5's.

Amazing shop, well laid out. Really like the idea that you can fully use the macs and ipods, unlike Comet/Curry and the like where they have a silly power point demo or screensaver. By the way who delights in by passing those or guessing the passwords and playing solitare? I usually end up opening the pinball game and let some kid have a little fun while his parents go and spend money :D

Back to the Apples. Friendly staff, one trying to look for a sale or something came over but wasnt oppressive or "going for the sale", just friendly and happy to help.

Would go there again to have a look.

Dual Screens - Niiiiice. Why would you need that much monitor space! Im happy with 15" @ 1024x768!

Havn't been there but the one in London is schweet. Tis really classy especially the glass stairs and as mooney said, the way you can try everything out... shame i only had 15mins in there, all 15 of which were spent in the queue getting an ipod, oh well.

Yeah, theres a BIG one in the bullring, but theres also a smaller one in the palisades. I've been in both. Although I got kicked out of the pali' one because I was 'abusing' one of te iBooks in there.

By 'abusing' I'm not sure what he meant, all I was doing was checking my email and talking to a few people on iChat, which is something they encourage you to do in the bullring store.

I've been in to the Apple store in the Bull Ring, as I remember I was having rather a lot of fun winding up Apple store employees by insisting the H.264 trailers they were running on their 2.7GHz uber mac were jerky ;)

I apologise for not being able to see at least one month into the future?

In regards to the Apple Centre in The Pallisades... It is just that, an Apple Centre. It's an independent Apple retailer, not an actual Apple Store.
