I know bit meets usually turn out ****, but with actually something to DO for a day it might be quite sucessful. Also, since we seem to have a good following in here, a get together might actually be fruitful for our skills sharing and ideas bounce off. So, Im tentatively suggesting a Sunday, somewhere interesting and central at the end of August/beginning of Sept. I realise some people are Oceans or huge land mass' away, and I cant help you there until someone develops teleportation technology Im afraid. How about it? Off the bat, im suggesting a MASSIVE multiplicity shot with everyone who attends.
I might be up for that, never been to a bit-tech meet before. But where? I have no idea where Caerdydd is (wales at a guess) so I guess that means its far away from everyone
Cardiff But Im not suggesting here, some place of interest/natural beauty/industrial/commercial?? in the UK. That's why I said central to make it easier for everyone.
somewhere like Birmingham, I have always wanted a chance to shoot the Selfridges building in the bullring there. Trains are good and there is always the university/cathedral for some old school building shots.
If you can suggest specific areas of interest, rather than just "the bull ring" so that we can fill a day. London City has lots of architecture I suppose which will easily fill a day, only parking is a problem. Personally Id prefer going for a walk in an area of natural beauty. Also suggested is a south meet now, north meet later, or visa versa.
That could definatley be an interesting idea. I know that Dorset/Lulworth/Weymouth is pretty good as they have beach heads with fossils in the cliff faces, there is Chesil Beach near by, there is also Blue Pool, Lulworth castle and Corfe castle, oh yeah, and Durdle Door. This would give nice natural objects and also architecture to photograph (along with the Tank Museum and Monkey World should people feel so inclined). Its probably a little too far south for most people but it'd got alot of stuff near by that may be interesting to shoot. There is also a train station in the town of Wool which is about a 10 min drive from Durdle Door bay and camp site. Only a suggestion though
london? parking? pah, get the national express down here!! can meet at victoria station, then make our way down th south bank where there are all sorts of cool photo ops. if we're gonna do a multiplicity shot, may i recommend the Tate Modern's turbine hall, plus a wide angle lense?
London is nice but for photo ops is a bit overrated. the presence of literally thousands of people loking for photo ops makes it very busy and nearly impossible to get decent shots without people in frame. Unless you are prepared to be there ready to take pics at 6 am you will be sorely disappointed IMHO. I live in London so should be for you guys coming down to my neck of the woods but frankly I'd rather concentrate on macro shots in my own back garden than visiting that there London with a camera
Im inclined to agree with Fly on this one, but then again I know Woo suggested south bank in the Xap thread too, so it sounds like a viable option. H: I dont mind you comin' as long as you point it elsewhere. As for a coach: I own a car! Why would I want to pay to travel with strangers at times which arent convienient for me! Im a snob ffs.
London would be good, i've been meaning to get down there since I got my camera. There are millions of potential shots that I want to take. Having lived there for 5 years, it's not all about south bank and the obvious choices (although i'd still want to do those), if go outwards towards earls court and beyond and the kings cross to city areas are full of photo opportunities.
Pah! Blackpool. You got it all here. Mad architechture, cheap accomodation, and dirty slappers wandering around drunk at night... what more could you possibly want? err... ok.. I see your point As usual, time is the limiting factor for me, but if we decide somewhere non too far away, then I'd be interested.
Should know by now, people aren't prepared to travel further than the next city to these sorta things... How about a nice trip to the seaside? Lovely views, countryside etc.. - Take a trip to Cornwall... Get on pretty much any mainline train heading southwest ish and you'll end up there/here... There's also not many bit-techers living down there so everyone has to travel
Yea that's true, noone ever wants to move or make a decision. Probably because it's hard to take more than a day off and Cornwall is farrrr south, unlike somewhere central to most people in england and wales (sorry Scots up in arctic-circle-land).
Reading? That's got some new and old stuff, plus it's easy to get to from London and the South. Hell, even the North with the cross-country service going Scotland->Manchester->Birmingham->Oxford->Reading. I definitely think we should 'theme' each meet so we can go with urban/architecture for this first one as it's probably easiest to do first time out. Maybe the next one we can pick a more rural location. Like you said, I have previously mentioned South Bank and I've found there's much around there you can photo without people in it. Just not the normal crap that the tourists want to photo. So yeah, I'll be in depending on the date.
