Since recently there are more and more Muhammed threads on this forum, I was wondering, does the Bit-Tech reader have a need for such threads? I just stumbled upon a thread (which I guess was instantly deleted, tnx mods!) that linked to a Muslim preacher site.

Well, I'm quite getting sick of this spam on this forum, and to be honest, it spoils the whole Bit-Tech experience for me. I used to hang around this forum almost all day (if I had the time), and read interesting stuff, participate and help people as much as I could. But now, it's Mohammed here, Muslim there... If I want to read that, I'll go to an Islam forum.

Maybe there should be a non-religion rule here? After all, this is a Tech/modders site/forum, not a religious one? But what do you think about that?

I don't think a non-religion rule would really stop the likes of the one post wonders we get. Free iPod pyramid schemes are banned yet we still get those lovely links posted across the forums. I deleted the thread within 5 minutes of it being posted, we trust the rest of the moderating team to be just as efficient and ruthless when it comes to this type of behaviour on the forums. There is a "report bad post" button on the left hand side of the posts, if you use that I assure you we will act upon it ASAP.

I concur. Those posts are entirely uninvited spam. We aim to treat them that way. Please use the "Report Bad Post" button and bannage will ensue ASAP.

Agreed- a lot of people will use any thread that mentions God as an excuse to write an article on their over-the-top religious opinions- all seems a bit tabloidesque if you ask me. Most topics of that nature are in the Serious Discussion sub-forum so you're safe from it most of the time, but I don't feel that conversation of that type should ensue anywhere else on the forums and be kept to a minimum where possible. People just need to learn how to avoid going off-topic so easily.

I feel that there's nothing wrong with these discussions when they're in the Seious Discussion area. It is a serious discussion, and has a right to be there. There are more threads than usual about religion due to what has happened recently, but it's to be expected.
Even though I am an atheist, I still feel that we should be allowed to discuss religion if we do it in a sensible manner. And banning religion will not stop the people posting random spam.

If only it were that simple. It seems that whenever religion is mentioned (or conspiracy...) people lose all sense of reason and perspective.

As a result of the latest rants we now have moved in a very short time from:
    - welcoming a new member for giving a valid insight, and trying to have an open-minded discussion about it to:
    - banning that member for refusing to take part in a dialogue but abusing the forum just for preaching, to:
    - banning another new member for doing the same, to:
    - deleting all threads of the first member (and thus, his insights) to stop encouraging more religious spam.

As such exactly the opposite has occured from what that member tried to achieve: we have not got more insight and dialogue, we just have more polarisation and antagonism. I really hate having to delete threads/posts. It is censorship that should not have to occur on a forum based on free speech and mature discussion.

I was going to trash both of MARYA's threads but I have decided to leave the first thread, as it had some semblance of a discussion. This may encourage more spam, but so be it, we'll weather it. The price of free speech, and all that.
