There's nothing exceptional about the first 4mins. I do think the ameoba-like bit at 2:40ish was cool though.
Hum, wouldn support that, couldnt recognise a thing, but rotation of the sign holders at 12:36 was a bit too fast for my taste...
I'm glad you liked the signs. Well, I thought there were some highlights in there... the TopSpy logo, the Fractal Design movie I was commissioned for, the cherry 7up advert remake, and the 6eDesign logo before the TopSpy one. Wouldn't support what? Well that particular moment wasn't supposed to be anything, somewhat abstract. I used an emitter with some lights and a transparent sphere with deflectors cloned onto polygonal centers. ... Did you recognize the 20th Century Fox Logo? - I modeled that from scratch. You're totally right about the arms, they are rigged and I need to change one of the Up Vectors so that it doesn't jump as it hits 180 degrees like it is. Thanks for that advice. I was thinking of overlapping the movement of the arms a bit more as well, what do you think of that? (rather than one arm moves, then another, and another . . etc)
Yeah, that would be better, maybe put a little bit of overshoot into the movements, (maybe slighly different end / start points aswell ? ) that would make them a lot more believable.
A nice animation is one that has some "irregularities". This is the same with faces, human do not have symmetrical faces. Check for this book : This was my hand book when working animation. This is mainly focused at traditional hand made 2D animation ... but this is usable with 3D animation. Edit : If you do not want the up vector to jump 180°, just add some keyframes around that particular point. Maybe you should take the inertial force into account, in a way that the motion is slightly slower at the begining.
I guess the lack of positive reinforcement is discouraging but I will use it to create something that is even better. For what it is worth, perhaps more to me than to you guys, the video was very well received by my class, instructor, and head of the multimedia department. Hell, it doesn't matter really, I've already received two jobs from people who have seen this video . . . meaning that I am able to keep doing what I love, getting better at it, and getting paid for it. Thanks for the tip Guille - it's not a matter of keyframes here though. I'm using bones and control objects to move the hydraulic arm. I have moved the UP vector that I was talking about and this has fixed the animation, I have yet to render it out though as it takes several hours. Also, that looks like a cool book but I was thinking about ordering the Disney version (maybe it is an American thing).
A book from a professional classic animator is always helpful. I studied animation for 2 years and this book is really great. The difference between a good and a great animation is all about details. keep practicing, this is a nice start
More and more amazing work turns up everytime I visit, keep it up guys! Here's a little something from me, got a few renders stacked up ready to show you guys but i'll upload them later I have been playing around with Indigo Render, it's a great little unbiased renderer and produces outstanding renders! Highly recommend you guys have a look! Also if you have a time please checkout my deviantArt portfolio >>> lithiumdesign
Indigo is good, competes very well with maxwell and fry, totally outstrips kerkythea imo. I added you to my devwatch.
Thanks, DoF is purely Indigo (love the way Indigo renders DoF) and the chromatic aberration was all photoshop! Unfortunately Indigo doesn't support aberration as it takes a very long time to render - where as you can add lens distortion which looks just as good in 5 minutes with photoshop Hopefully they will bring aberration and other lens distortion effects into some furutre releases as post-processing adjustments!
It's actually an EXR environment map! Basically a HDR sky in .EXR format It's hard to compare the two as indigo is an ubiased renderer, so it continues to render for eternity (in theory) until you tell it to stop, where as with vray you set it to render at certain sampling rates etc. and it stops when it reaches this point! I personally believe that Indigo produces much more realistic results, thanks too it's amazing shader language! Just take a look at their website and try out the free trial, you won't turn back I promise you
14 hours!! but, you can pause the render whenever you want, you can even turn off your PC and then start the render where you left off which is also why I love this software so much!!
