Oh man, that's just about as bad a start to a season as you can get...

Hope there is some fitting tributes this weekend - though there obviously hasn't been a lot of warning/time to prepare.

That's tragic news so shortly before the race weekend.
I am sure the tributes will come flooding in this weekend.

At the very least, all the cars should have black armbands on Sunday.

Well, normal service has been resumed merc are eight tenths ahead of redbull and ferrari with kimi very close behind. Mid field looks tight but Williams is miles off.

Well that was just about the worst possible start to the season, Whiting was only a year older than my dad, almost to the day.

What a shitty thing to happen.

Smells like the title is already decided:
Red Bull looks close enough to swipe points from Ferrari, so Mercs have it sewn up.

Further down the field it looks crazy tight between the Haas, Alfa, NotForceIndia, McLaren, Renault and Toro Rosso and then somewhere in the "might as well have shown up on a bicycle" ranks there are the Williams.

Smells like just any Australian GP for Ferrari.

Australia 2019 - Ferrari 7 tenths behind Hamilton
Australia 2018 - Ferrari 7 tenths behind Hamilton
Australia 2017 - Vettel 3 tenths behind Hamilton, Kimi 9 tenths behind Hamilton.
Australia 2016 - Vettel 8 tenths behind Hamilton.

Still lol'ing at the "technical experts" that were saying how far ahead Ferrari were and how much Merc are struggling to understand the car.

Also lol'ing at anyone who believed Lewis and Toto when they kept saying the usual "this will be a close fight", year after year.

Definitely going to be waking up early to illegally stream the race (F you Sky), I fully expect some fireworks at the start!

To be fair, nobody expected Mercedes to put out a fake car on 1st week of the pre-season practice, because that is an expensive thing to do.

Oh absolutely, but with the amount of sand they carry around every pre-season test, they might as well be sponsored by JCB...

Considering how close the midfield appears to be we might even get fireworks on lap 2 or 3:thumb:

To be fair it wasn't a fake car, it a twenty-eighteen-and-a-bit car with the 2019 powertrain in it so Merc could thrash the engine without giving Ferrari any ideas to steal when it came to aero.

Kind of genius, but a bit demoralising for everyone else.

Already seen people saying that during Practice / Quali Merc were gauging the rest of the grid, and now they feel they have another free championship they are handing it to Bottas this year as Hamilton won it last year

Nah, Hamilton fluffed the start and there's no such thing as team orders in race one.
