Anyone see any analysis of free practice? Where Merc sandbagging or just not liking the new Perelli's?

It was crazy hot and the Merc doesn't like the heat... I think was the reasoning/excuse...

but one or both of the above could be true too

well the tyres letting go makes things interesting for next week
as they'll be running softer tyres next time round

Memories of Silverstone a few years ago [2012?] with tyres 'sploding left and right...

    2013 iirc.

Will be interesting to see if they stick o the plan to run a softer compound next week, Mercs will certainly be begging the FIA to intervene so Verstappen doesn't get handed a Hamilton weekend.

utter snoozefest of a race, with 4 mad laps right at the end, the 'should max of pitted' argument will rage on for quite some time, imo pitting was the right call with the information they had, there was every chance Lewis either would of pitted for safety or his tire wouldnt of let go on him and getting max that fastest lap would of been worth the risk

Indeed, Max said he was unsure of the tyres for a while so he also wanted the change. Probably for the best they did as they could have decided to let go, we will never know.

Re next week, tyre wise I don't think they can do much with this short a notice bar perhaps mandate a minimum number of stops under safety.

If anything max's tyre could have went just as easily. I did wonder after Albons stop, would the mercs have enough to pit, put on new mediums and catch and pass Verstappen. While exploding tyres was unexpected, the high loads going through those tyres, possibility of saftey cars and the fact you can overtake at silverstone might have made rolling the dice worth it
