Merc looks kind of plane Jane. There's plenty of small details, but evolution more than revolution, not watched any analysis on it yet, other than scarbs doodles above. At this point it's anyones guess who'll be left when the dust settles, and who'll be left in the dust. Edit: other than haas
I think the Merc has some interesting features, but it's a more conventional design than the wild Aston/Williams/Ferrari going for really radical solutions... And no, it doesn't look like an Indycar.
In the Merc promo vid we actually see the DRS flap open, if anyone wants an idea of how it works with the new rear wings.
Wasn't there talk of them buying sauber romeo a while back? ...or they see the writing on the wall at Haas
There was, but it broke down because Andretti thought he was buying the team, whilst Sauber's owners saw it more as an investment and partnership, they weren't/aren't looking to sell the team completely. I think the $200million entry fee will get altered in some way. Maybe turn it into a bond that the new team gets back over a number of seasons. Say $50million is the fee and the remaining $150million gets added to the new team's 'prize money' over 5 years. But maybe that's too sensible for F1.
I still think Andretti might have one eye on buying a team [Haas], and getting into F1 that way, and a standalone entry is plan B if haas by some miracle survives.
I think they're circling Haas for sure. Probably be in talks with partners before hand, I'm sure Ferrari wouldn't want to lose that additional revenue and redbull wouldn't mind offsetting some of the engine dev cost with a partner program, Renault would probably give them free engines just so there was another Renault team. ****, could end up being the enstone team they buy if the next few years go poorly for them
