Get in Lewis... ...also, oh that's what Peter 'Bono' Bonnington looks like... think that's the first time I've actually seen his face.
That was one of the best races I've watched in ages. And Lewis winning his home GP was the icing on that tasty cake.
If this isn't it for Perez at RBR you have to wonder what kompromat he or Carlos Slim has on Horner and/or Marko
Man the luck of that guy, even when he can't win anymore he escapes 2 crashes in 3 races that could have easily ended up with him damaging the car enough to DNF.
I'm torn. Glad that Norris took the big picture view and supported the team. Dissapointed as he was clearly much faster and no doubt would have overtaken Piastri if he had been pitted first and he is technically in a fight for the championship. On balance I think this was the "right" call by McLaren but they did make it difficult on themselves again.
If Norris had let Oscar through as soon as they'd asked him, he had plenty of time to race Oscar and probably would've gotten the win. I think the damage has now been partially done and Oscar will think twice before being so willing to bend backwards for team orders.
I suppose it depends on the specifics of the team orders. Either way, it's a sh!t system. I wouldn't want Piastri to be ordered to give up a guaranteed win should the positions be reversed. Let them race and trust them to race sensibly, if they are vying for a position. Imagine RB falling off a cliff and Max having to rely on points finishes to bolster an ever-diminishing lead and Norris gets to within 7 points.
That was bizarre and completely amateurish, Lando is in the hunt for the championship this year, Piastri's not. With that car and Max increasingly reverting to type Mclaren have a chance for both titles. It's fairly remote but it's there. But choosing to take a 76 point deficit instead of 69 (nice) because 'we pwomissed Oscar,' is why Mclaren aren't going to win either title this year despite being in the running for both. Mercedes or Red Bull would have done the math and prioritised the number 1 driver. Apologise to Oscar and explain the championship takes precedence. Lando should have unplugged his radio and driven his race. He was clear and pulling away, it was his win.
They're not thinking aboud the WDC yet, they're thinking about the WCC and keeping both drivers happy. Piastri is now a race winner, with all the great PR that brings (long after "Hey move over" is forgotten). There may also be contractual issues in here about priority based on road order during pit rounds etc, something that wouldn't happen if Norris was closer. Either way it was an entertaining race. Max had a really terrible day other than how strongly RB build their cars - that it held up to the Hamilton mid-air is incredible.
