How much did Bio-Ware pay for the huge Mass Effect Advert? Seriously reminds me of the IMDb front page every other week. Luckily I have adblock so I just blocked all the images.
... it makes me want Bioware merchandise .... SNAPS OUT OF IT .. I like it, I would love to be able to create such a cool layout
Wow. I guess we can't please EVERYONE, but I think this is officially the least sensitive and/or helpful criticism ever received regarding the takeovers. I mean, constructive criticism is helpful - but this just...isn't.
I agree, the Bit frontpage is obnoxious... compared to when these full page ads are on... I love them!
How do you think bit-tech pay the bills? At least it's not some in your face annoying pop up's, the content and layout are left unaffected.
Why do we get people moaning every time these are on? I like them, actually. They add variation to the page, and generally look pretty damn good. Oh, and BT is actually the only page that's on my whitelist in adblock. (to many sites overuse java and flash )
Don't think its any worse than any of the other ads that have appeared, methinks the originator of the thread has some personal baggage on this issue or an axe to grind. Like it or not the ads pay the bills and as long as they are relevant to the content of the site then I don't have an issue with them in their current format. The type that reeeeaalllly irritate me are the ones that launch into some big display as soon as you wave your cursor anywhere near them and no matter how much you click the close button it just doesn't go away - probably booby trapped. MSN springs to mind here.
Ok I take it back. When I first saw the Mass Effected (which is an awesome game btw, already beat it for the PC) home page, a few of the images were already blocked by some custom rules I had in adblock plus. This resulted in a retarded looking homepage. So I manually blocked the rest of the images. I just looked at it with no images blocked and I guess it looks fine. At least there are no flash pop ups a la www.imdb.com.
Just remember, the site is free to use and will continue to be free to use (and free of popups and green plagues...) so long as people don't block the ads. It costs an absolute shitload to run each year and it's only made possible by the hard work the staff put in and advertising you see on the pages.
Those background-ads, while they indeed make me wonder how much they pay for those, are better than cluttered flash-shait all over the place. All the same which game/product/brand is advertised, I'm not affected in any way really.
I actually do click occasionally. 90% of the time it's by accident. But sometimes I'll see something of genuine interest. I still think that whoever makes those flash adds needs a real kick in the arse though. Ugly would be a nice description and as someone who knows what could be achieved it doesn't instil much confidence in the product.
