bleh, looks like my post didn't go through when the server went down :(.

So, there's been quite a few new discussion points:

    a) New Ranked System coming into play:

I think the concept is really interesting... i had a rather tenuous relationship with Ranked play in S2, only really bothering to Duo Queue with certain friends and even then, only when I was in the mood.

One of the main issues addressed is that people don't like seeing their Badge/ELO drop (me especially) and it's really disheartening knowing you dropped ~50 ELO over the course of a few matches.

It seems like now ELO will be hidden and whilst your Ladder rating may rise or fall, once you hit a "Skill Tier" (i.e. this iteration of Bronze/Gold/Silver) you permanently keep it and can only be at the bottom of its division.

    b) Annie visual upgrade:

I was rather pleasantly surprised about this and now i'm super excited.

Although she's fallen a little out of favor these days, Annie's probably been one of my favourite champions simply due to the enjoyment of making people disappear under a giant flaming bear from the sky.

She's also the Champion i own the most skins for (4 on EU, Goth Annie is owned on NA).

    c) (Pre)Season 3 so far

So now that there's been quite a bit of time to settle into the pre-season, what are people's thoughts on the current balance and item changes?

One of the prevalent things i've noticed (and actually enjoyed doing) is placing Bruisers mid (especially Lee Sin). Froggen of CLG.eu picked this up at the end of S2, but i think it's been made more accessible now, especially with the itemisation changes.

Overall i'm still concerned that AP is slowly being phased out (since resists are less important and pen is more prevalent, damage types are less important now). However, it's nice to see that ADs (especially casters like Panth) are seeing a return to mid and are now able to fight on a more even footing.

It's similar, so i've heard when reading the Dev responses to feedback on the system.

Not sure if it's influenced from the incoming Korean teams or simply because they liked the SC2 method.

Anyhow, their response with regards to the similarities was:

Removal of ELO means that you can get carried up and not drop down. Still there's ladder anxiety but I dunno, previous methods if your ELO sucked you could still manage on the basis that the rest of the team did too.

That's true, but they've stated that matches (i.e. Teammates and Opponents) will be based on a "Matchmaking Rating", which seems to effectively be an ELO system behind the scenes.

Ultimately, the "Ladder" system is just a visual representation of where you are in the grand scheme of things and ELO as a "skill rating" will be removed. Gold and Silver tier players can still be matched against each other so long as their "Rating" is similar.

As for Ladder Anxiety, i think the Ladder will probably be changing constantly as people will be overtaking you and/or falling which might help relieve the thought of simply rising through wins or dropping through losses.

Sadly, I haven't been able to play in a while now. I got as close as updating (700-odd meg, TYVM) LoL on the weekend (That included the balance fixes, the Annie Makeover, and the pre-patch for the new champ).
I just have too much (exciting) work to do right now, which is taking up my gaming time.

Honestly, Diana's only problem was the fact that she was stupidly tanky and could deal massive damage.

Now that it's league of bruisers game's a bit different.

Speaking of which, I recently discovered Kayle and Poppy. 2 of the best 450 champs in the game. Kayle being an understated if super strong top and Poppy being literally one of the most underplayed yet effective champs in the game.

I agree with the assessment on Diana... her problem is that she's very well rounded, playing like a Bruiser when being an AP Carry.

However in S3 i think she's lost a lot of her advantages with the increasing popularity in AD Casters and Bruisers mid. Why pick an AP Carry who has a mediocre laning phase, when you can play someone like Talon or Panth who whilst being just as "difficult" to lane with but offer much better harass and killing potential.

As for Kayle and Poppy... the former has always been strong, just underplayed... "Carry" Kayle was rather popular back in the day and is still immensely fun to play when you get farmed/fed.

Poppy on the other hand... i love Poppy but she needs some attention. She is easily the worst farmer in the game, with all of her abilities being single target which makes her have the worst early game possible. Instead she's heavily reliant on getting kills throughout the game in order to snowball her to a level of ridiculous-ness.

Kayle can be fun at times, though I never quite gelled with her. When she gets fed she's MEAN, even in team fights.
Anyone else feel that the new skin makes her look like a Protoss?

Kayle's regarded as a hyper carry, similar to the likes of Kog, Vayne, Jax etc. once she passes a certain point she'll just destroy anyone that stands in her path since the 3s invulnerability means she'll just shred anyone in that window and can't be bursted down.

As for her new skin, i can see why there's some... "controversy" on the forums with regards to its Legendary status.

On the one hand, it technically fits the criteria for Legendary... new model, animations, voiceovers etc.

However with the recent increase in overall skin quality, players have been rather "spoilt" by Riot in terms of their 975 skins which usually have some combination of the above (but not necessarily all three).

The other issue is that the skin came a little out of the blue and doesn't really have an "impact" similar to previous Legendary's such as Gentleman Cho, Brolaf etc.

Poppy's poor laning phase is justified in the fact that once you get sheen -> tri-force you're practically one of the burstiest champs in your lane. Although her farm is pathetic, her item dependency isn't so bad. Plus once you some attack speed she becomes this bizarrely powerful burst + sustain champ.

Still Kayle is stupidly strong especially in the new patch and there are very few champs that can either out-sustain or out farm her in top or bottom lane. Poppy does need work, but she's still super strong if not rather viable given her excessively great E, her insane Q damage, the great Dmg reduction passive, the hilariously OP tower diving and zoning ult (if fed, you can ult the bursters and melt the carries). She has no escape, but a poppy played well is a force to be reckoned with.

I'm still playing without runes (level 24) too. Also, Gragas is super fun. Great CC.

Maybe I should give Kayle another chance, once I find a bit more time...

Kayle's an interesting champ in the sense that you can build her hybrid and just hypercarry your way to victory.
