I hate grey. :p But that's funny considering all my keycaps are various shades of grey.

Had the best time of my life in dublin last year. Singing, drinking, and singing, and more drinking.

Was singing for days after too!

    Yeah! :p

If I can sum up my weekend trip, I'd call it a real eye opener to what the devaluation of the euro has done.

I can vouch for the economic issues in the ROI, with many aunts and uncles struggling with finances, especially food prices.

    And now, to ChemCamp!

The country is on its ass at the moment. I have lots of friends who live and work in the ROI and the Euro crisis (or whatever you want to call it) has genuinely made life quite difficult for many people. Businesses closing down all over, people being laid off... The country is slipping back into the same severity of recession as that of the late 80's, and this time it's mostly down to the Euro value, or lack thereof.

Despite all that, I still don't appreciate you calling Dublin boring and grey (and a ****hole - that one was completely uncalled for). Dublin (and many other cities in this country) has more culture and history than some British cities put together. Like I said, I may not be Irish, but I've been to Dublin many times and I've always thought that it was a beautiful, vibrant city. I have no problem with someone calling the place that they live in a dump - if you have first hand experience of it and genuinely don't like where you live, you have every right to. I don't, however, like it being said about one of the biggest and nicest cities in Ireland, or anywhere else in the world that is so far removed from being "grey", "boring" or a "shithole" by someone who is just visiting. I didn't particularly enjoy Birmingham the one time that I was there, but you don't hear me badmouthing it all over the Internet

And if Birmingham was a bad example, I also didn't like St. Malo in the south of France. I spent a few days there a few years ago and couldn't wait to get back to our nice hotel in Jersey. Again, this was more to do with the fact that the weather sucked, I was sick whilst we were there and that St. Malo didn't turn out to be all that I thought it was cracked up to be. I still couldn't go as far as saying nasty things about it though, it's actually a really nice place if you get good weather and aren't violently ill most of the time.

Understood, I apologise. The architecture was beautiful. The problem being I have a very low tolerance of people as rude as what I experienced there (which now sounds quite ironic considering what I've said).

That's not as 'ironic' as you seem to think.

I resisted commenting on the Dublin thing but what I will say is that G0UDG is absolutely right, most cities in Europe have their sprawling, ugly, concrete jungle areas. But they almost always have beautiful, traditional areas as well.

    Except possibly Hull.

Edit: Oh, and top o' the morning to ya G0UDG :)

Perhaps the more diplomatic thing to have said would have been:

"Despite the fact that the Irish are famed for their easy-going, friendly nature, I found some of the people I met to be quite unfriendly. We also appeared to be staying in one of the less attractive quarters of the city."
