Looking good. Don't forget the spelling of n00b is double zero not o. And as Dream said before the text needs to be away from the border.[/pedantic]

Also any chance of you posting a .PSD of your template so others might have a go?

I like the theme - but I think they look much better with between 1 and 3 pixels of white under the text. I think I'm going to redo your newbie one along those same lines. (I've gotten into the habit of always saving my PSDs - I spent too much time recreating stuff when it just needed a tiny change.)

In Fod's defense, 'O' 'o' and '0' are all identical in the bit tech font

Someone who wants to host a PSD let me know (PM) and I will email you a starting point.

Either of those. The red doesn't contrast as well as these 2.

you're right, they do look better with a slight gap in the border. i have no time to rework them today and i never saved the original PSDs, so feel free to go wild.

i prefer your n00b one too, but the tops of the 0s look a little strange. too square.

(if you're having trouble getting the font to look crisp or correct at these small sizes, try toggling the 'hinting' option - it varies in effectiveness depending on the size - and playing with the antialiasing)

    Thanks again.

Everyone who wants to use it - you should probably also download the bit-tech font located earlier in this thread.

1st attempt. I had to reduce the font size to fit it in. Will do others later.

If you ditch the 's' at the end you will have a little more room.
Could 'photo' be used in place of camera(s)? - That would give you even more room.

Also - I think the graphic may be too busy for 20 pixels tall. Perhaps a graphic of an old fashioned camera flash would be simple enough and descriptive enough at the same time.

I couldn't readily find a picture that would suit so I'll have to keep looking.

Here's another couple I knocked up before work this morning.

Very nice. :thumb: Did you find those graphics or build them?

I might make the text a little bigger, but I really like them.

TO STAFF: What do you guys think of making all or almost all of the images match this theme? (edit - I think it was Fod)I can't remember who made the first ones, (I know, I could look back a couple of pages......) but I think they are elegant and will do a good job of identifying things. Would you rather have them all different? Are there some important ones that haven't been done up in the purple/white thing? (Another nice thing about this is that if you guys ever 'officially' changed your color scheme it would be easy to change the color of these to match....)

More Edit: If we are going to go with this theme for most of them - can we define some standards? Something like:
    • 1 pixel (Or 2 - what does everyone think?) of white under the text
    • The text should be as large as it can be to still have a few white pixels on the right and the left
    • Related to above - I think the text should not be more than 12 or 13 pixels tall - but this one can be open to debate - what do you think? (This would only matter on the 2 and 3 letter ones.)
    • RGB value for the purple should be 85, 52, 109 (that's 55346d in hex)
    • the graphic should be simple and clear
    • Unless you have a good reason, the text should be in the bit-tech font linked to in one of the earlier posts.

    Feedback?

The pictures are much, much edited versions of pictures sourced elsewhere.

Seconded on creating a standard - whether this one (which looks cool) or somthing else the Mods decide. It ties it all together.
