Well in 10 days ill hit 28 years young... trouble is im always wanting lots of new bits my budgets around £180 maybee i could bump it up to £200, i need help/suggestions on what i should get please anyway onto my list (in random order) 1. Western Digital 2TB External Hard Drive <<< click (best price i could find) Im wanting one of these to hook up to my wii using usbloader gx, i heard the 1tb works no probs so im after the biggest drive poss to keep my collection on (yes there originals), thing is tho do i need all that space? ill use WBFS Manager 3.0 to transfer my games which also scrubbs them so i really have no idea how much space ill need for all the games? and yeah ill probs put every game on it as i have 5 family members (me, hubby & 3 kids) playing all different kindsa games, so is it worth getting that massive drive or would i be better off with a smaller one?? (this ones mainly for the family but i will use it too) 2. XFX GTX275 XXX Edition <<< click (best price i could find) i only have a lowly 9600gso 768mb card atm, running a 19" widescreen @ 1440x900  now im not a huge gamer but i am desperatly wanting to get diablo 3, borderlands and mafia 2 and i would like to put all the eye candy on max which i know my current card wouldnt do :weep: is it worth the upgrade? i know the next gen of cards are coming soon so will this change the price a lot? 3. Icy Box IB-555SK <<< click (best price i could find) This is to expand my storage, i currently have 2x320gig & 1x750gig (which are nearly full) but my case is cramped and i like the idea of this device, ill get a 1.5tb samsung for starters then add more when funds allow 4. Intel E7600 <<< click (best price i could find) im currently running an E7300 it runs at stock 2.66ghz with stock cooler, i have tried to overclock but it was annoying and not worth the limited time i have to get it all stable, the main reason i want one is so i get a better framerate in pcsx2 and a little speedup all round, but tbh i dont know if its worth the upgrade or not? 5. Dell Ultrasharp 2209WA <<< click (best price i could find) as i stated earlier im running a 19" widescreen tn panel, its really shockingly bad quality, light bleed at every edge, poor colour and generally cheap and nasty... but hey it was ebuyers budget one lol im in two minds on this one tho as i dont think my gfx card could handle the pixel increase, especially in the upcoming games im after, but id really like one just to save my poor eyes so theres my five i have to choose between it would be nice to know your thoughts on which would be best, i tried to give information on why i chose them but please if you have any questions dont be shy to ask
HOLY CRAP!!!!! AND THERE'S ONLY ONE LEFT!!! QUICKLY!11!!1!!1! EDIT: Wait, I was reading it as inc. VAT , thats a GTX 260 192, get a HD4870 instead... EDIT EDIT: Ahhh no its the 216 version... so where was I... o yer .. GET ITT!!!!1!!1!!!!
wouldnt the 275 be better though?? e8400 - would it really make much of a difference? would the e7600 out-perform it?? thanks for all the replies so quickly
Meh, get the e7400 or the e8400, you can overclock, get the GTX 260 and you'll have cash to spare Getting the e7500 or e7600 doesn't make sense because add £20 and you'll be able to get e8400, the gtx 275 isn't worth the extra £120 from the GTX 260 you could get SO BUY IT NOW NOW NOW!!!
I've got a GTX260 in this machine and it runs any game I throw at it at 1920x1200 (24" native) at maximum settings so yes definitely get the 260 (and the newer 216 core cards are even better, mine is an older 192 core model). I've also got an E7400 in another machine I use and it's overclocked to 3.4GHz using a Freezer 7 Pro air cooler (£15 most places). Runs games such as Supreme Commander (very cpu intensive) very well. That'd be £200 very well spent! Doggeh EDIT - Just noticed you've already got an E7300 so you might as well spend £15 on a better cooler for it and just overclock that instead of buying new... the E7300 is still a good cpu and not worth replacing.
the Icy Box IB-555SK you have to put in 3x 5.25" harddrive bays. i have been looking at the same sort of thing but this, also might get 2x 1.5tb harddrives so i can store all my stuff http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Edge...10-DAS-Enclosure-via-eSATA-(IO-card-Included)
Personally I wouldn't bother with the processor - the biggest computer bottleneck will be the graphics card. Get a new one of those. I wouldn't bother with the ICY box, just take out a small drive, and replace it with a larger one, seems more efficient and better value somehow. As for the external for the Wii - I'm not sure how mcuh space their games take up - but only you can weigh that up over the other items and how much value it would have. Personally I'd get a new graphics card now - then save up a bit and get a nicer monitor... RwD
Lol, that would be a downgrade (the OP already has an E7300). If you really want to upgrade the CPU then only a quad would be worth it IMO (certainly not the E7300 > E7600, you'd just be paying £100 for a higher multiplier). What motherboard are you using? The 9600 GSO is a decent budget card so can still hold its own, and I'm not sure the GTX 260 would be a worthwhile upgrade given your screen resolution (if you can't afford to upgrade both at the same time). If it was me, I'd get the monitor first and cope with the 9600 GSO until I could afford one of the new cards.
If it wasn't so close to the next gen cards coming out, I'd have snapped this up yesterday, but my current card does the job, so not bothering upgrading yet. Also, it says 1 left, but its said 1 left for ages. They just put a low numebr in to increase sales.
I just bought 2 of those screens above, a big step up from my 15.4" laptop with another 15" monitor next to it , they really are very nice. It would prob be best to upgrade the graphics keep whats left over and start saving to get a new monitor.
thank you everyone lots of great input, its a dilemma i know as i can only afford one, yet i want all lol, i think ill go with the screen + hsf, my mobo is - Gigabyte ga-ep31-ds3l, i bought it after reading a review (on here i think?) saying it was a great overclocker but ive never been able to get it to overclock, im a total noob and followed many different guides from all over the web but to no avail, i did manage once but it blue screend s'pose ill post my full system specs: (any prog that will give all info via screeny?) antec 300 case gigabyte ga-ep31-ds3l E7300 stock hsf 2gb corsair ballistix ram (this i think) xfx 9600gso 768mb 500w psu (cant remember make but wasnt a cheap n nasty one) 2x320gb wd & samsung f1 750gb hdd's the monitor is by hanon or hanoii? has a nike style swoosh lol its not very good at all... oooo i found it! and here with specs and a rediculous price! oh and planem997 i have looked into that as well, i have heard the fan on the unit makes a rather loud high pitch whine (the psu fan) but if you decide to buy please let me know your opinion i didnt know the icybox had to go in your drive bay think mine only has 3 and ones taken by the dvd drive looks like a new gfx card for crimbo then? oh and shall i post pics when i get whatever i decide on?? dunno if anyones interested
