I'm having a problem that when i download anything using bittorrent after a while my web starts to get slow..it wont connect to sites and then eventually it wont even connect to the internet at at all. Whats weird is that usually AIM will stay connected (only sometimes it will disconnect, but i can reconnect.) And whats REALLY weird is the torrents will still go at normal speed, i can chat with people and everything fine..but the internet wont connect and takes restarting to fix. Does ANYONE know how to fix this? I had the problem before but forget how i fixed it.

Edit: Also, i'm using XP, using a Belkin wireless router (connected from cable to my computer, not wirelessly) The computer is DMZ'ed/firewall not running on either the router or windows, even the service is stopped.

Errrrrr wtf?? What do you expect, your running BT which is pulling as much info thru your line as possible so of course it's going to slow down, BT is using as much as it can. The only solution is to close it and stop downloading.

Even if your not downloading at you full speed, your upload usually will be, and thats the real killer.

Did you even read my post? I said it eventually slows down..then completly disconnects me from the internet, yet i can still use aim and Azureus still downloads. It doesnt just 'slow down'. I would be fine if it did, the problem is it disconnects me and doesnt let me view webpages, wont even connect to them.

And i have my upload capped 20kbps below my limit so it doesnt clog.

Is you BT client shutting down also? If AIM etc are working then you're not getting 'disconnected from the internet', you're just killing your bandwidth. Do an upload speed test and limit it to 3-5kbps below the measured value. Should help no end.

BT stays connected, but it isnt even when its maxing out my connection. I have Azureus set so it only takes 350/600kb's and 35/60kbp's of my bandwith. Also, if it was maxing out my connection..wouldnt closing it help it? When i close it, it stays the same way. (Disconnected)

Try lowering upload speed to the minimum. I had a similar problem and that solved it.

Try clicking 'repair' on your network connection icon, repowering your modem or resetting your router. Sometimes the DNS address f***s up or something and it stops loading pages etc but leaves non-firefox/IE programs alone. It's v v v annoying because it happens to me.

I get this sometimes. Sometimes the ready light stops flashing on the router, somtimes it stays on with a constant data light. Whe this happens to me I get connection errors in Azures though.

I have to reset the router to sort it. I seem to get around it by limiting the number of uploads \ downloads as well as the bandwidth so it dosen't exceed the theoritical limits of my internet service. Odd but it seems to work.

I'd hardly say that's the only solution. Use a program like NetLimiter to throttle the downstream that BitTorrent has available.

If you have a router then it is possible that it is saturation problem with NAT my router had a similar proble, I had to up the amount of ipsessions I could have and lower the timeout of the TCP timeout. This due to the router not having enough memory to deal with all the NAT routes in its table.
Obviously if your not using a router you can forget what I just said as it will be different issue.

It's your modem. BT might be set to use all your upload speed. That will kill your connection. Especially with a cheap modem. I have to reset mine every time I go over about 20k up... The download speed won't screw you over.

But the NAT could definantly be your issue too. NAT's are designed for 1000 connections. Here's some more info http://www.pcsupportadvisor.com/Network_address_translation_NAT_page2.htm

Make sure your using port triggering and not port forwarding too. More stable too...

Okay..i guess it is my upload, any amount of upload over 20kbps kills my connection i think. Was uploading something to a friend and my web started getting all screwy again.

Either you have quite an upload limit or you're reading it wrong. Azureus has its numbers in kilobytes per second, ISPs tend to list speeds in kilobits per second to make them seem faster (so divide by eight). My ISP gives me 384Kb/sec = 48KB/sec up, I think I have my max upload set to 20KB/sec.

What I did for azureus on my comp was to go into the router and force a static IP (102.168.0.104 or something like that) on my comp. Then I set forwarding for the port (6991 I think) to that comp. I disabled UPnP in Azureus, restarted it, and did the config thing to make sure it was all set up right. It works fine for me.

Port forwarding is less secure then port triggering. Use port triggering it's not always open.

I am willing to bet money it's f**ked modem as said above. The same thing happened on my connection and I replaced the modem with a new one and the issue has never manifested itself again. You modem probably has a tiny buffer on it. If it get's too many packets behind, it gets confused and kills the connection.

I am wondering i fthis is it too, not sure thought. Although i think it may also be too many connections being requested? Windows XP only allows 10 doesnt it? and i have Azureus requesting some and then Mozilla requesting some...aim..yahoo..If i have this right, is there a way to enable more?

Also i figured out that it isnt the upload..and it seemed to semi fix it when i set the network connections 5 in mozilla..but it whent kind of slow when loading pages..but didnt show image breaks or no network detected.

This confuses me alot..i guess i'll go down to brighthouse(road runner) and get an updated modem, this ones old too.

I didnt read the whole thread, so pardon if this has been said already.

I used to have this problem, and it just turned out to be I was downloading too much at once and my modem would freak out and shut down (linksys cable modem). I didnt download so much, and limited my seeding to nill and it stopped.
