ok i'm gonna be getting a Lian - Li PC-61. its an annodised black one. i have this gr8 window idea (not to be disclosed until it is done in project logs) and basically i would like to know about edging the window. i know that on the lian li cases it looks best without an edging, just nice smooth neat cut metal. but as the case is black, leaving the edge raw will look odd... (black case/ thin shiney aluminium edge to window) i dunno if that makes sense . thanx Snood
I think I know exactly what you are talking you are wondering if the aluminum under the black anodized layer is still silver or black all of the way through... I have been wondering about this too.
oh i know its only black on the surface. what i'm asking is how can i have a bare edge without having the aluminium coming through?
dosent marker go a kinda purple/off black colour when put on metal (experience from being a little kid) i might be wrong tho Snood
Get a little pot of paint from a model shop (something like Games Workshop if you have one), that should do the trick. The other option (and it would very fiddly, but cool) is to route your window, so it sits flush in the hole. If your perspex is say 1" bigger than the hole all the way round, route out the excess perspex to the depth of the side panel. Your window will then sit flush. You'd have to be very precise with the routing though, as I'd think any non-straight edges would be quite noticable.
best bet would probably be to paint the edge of the cut with some thinned down testors model enamel ... my dad taught me how to mix the little pots of testors enamel with spirits to get really deep finishes ... i know its made for plastic but will probably work on aluminum too as long as you dont mess with it a lot .... personally i went for the door edge type moulding myself ... i just didnt wanna have to file my window edges out ... way too big , woulda taken me days
thanx m8, i'll have to get myself a new host, i only used geocities coz it woz the only one of mu OLD websites i could remember the p/w for......lol Snood
Dealing with a similar situation, I have been thinking the same... car paint will do; you can get this matte black spray-on stuff for instance (for black plastic bumpers), and of course model building paints will work as well. What you may want to consider is those car paint touch-up marker pens you can get at Halfords. They are not ordinary marker pens but some strange paintbrush/marker hybrid. Worth exploring.
yeah i have one of those touchup kits for a for silver colour, it has a paintbrush (its a pretty crap one tho. a precision pen. be very carefull with it, it runs out too easile, but the nice thing is it has primer and laquer too, as well as a wiers rubbing tool. like dry rubbing co,mpound on a hard sponge. Yeah, exactly like that As I said, would be very fiddly to do though, and you'd have to get it right. Any wobbly lines would be dead obvious - unless you made a feature of it
