I still wanna cry over that CX400W being replaced by the CX430 The "builder" series ain't made by Seasonic is it?
No overstatement. I just got mine delivered from Novatech. They had 50 in stock. £32.49. http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/components/powersupplies/corsair/cmpsu-400cxuk.html
Getting one next month before stock is depleted. Did an upgrade on a Compaq presario this weekend using the cx400. Nothing less than perfection.
Yes. This is only if you choose to purchase a graphics card that would take your total power draw close to the amount your current power supply can give. There are many second hand/previous generation cards that don't need over 200W to stay happy!
Thanks guys. Ordered a new CX400 PSU (figured I don't want to be restricted by something that is only £40 to upgrade). Then getting something like a gts 240? Is there anything else? My CPU? I figure there are going to be games coming out more and more that I'll need better parts for so hopefully these bits will see me good for a year or so. Next I'll be looking for a monitor with higher res.
Yeah, but I would bet most need more than 10A on the 12V rail. Most people only think about power (W) when it comes to PSUs, but amperage must also be considered.
You could get some second hand kit. I got a HD4850 for £30 on a whim a while back, should be fine for this game on modest settings (and still look better than a console over scart) And a decent PSU can be quite cheap if you buy one of the deals from Scan (usually weekend on a today only) an anteq Basiq 500 watt at £40 or so. So you're lookin at £70. Plus you might get £10~£20 on ebay for your old parts. Maybe £50~60 out of pocket.
PSU changed successfully. I've read in other threads about a market place. Is this somewhere on this site or a reference to the general 2nd hand market place out in the big wide world?
Just in case anyone searches looking for the same answer. I installed a 460 GTX yesterday and Black ops runs fine except some of the annoyingly frequent video clips which stall from time to time but I think thats a different problem.
As long as you are happy, that's fine I guess. But I seriously doubt your GTX460 is running at any faster than a 9800GT/GTS250/HD4850 at the moment with your current CPU. You could use something like MSI Afterburner to display your GPU usage while in Black OPs...I'm quite sure that it would be nowhere near 100% usage due to CPU bottleneck. See if you can get round to overclocking your CPU...it would definitely give you some extra frame rates, even if it's only a few exta fps.
