    I never understood the point of saying a game has gone gold, why not just say its finished?

    Well depending on the context, it might also mean it sold a crapload of copies. I think it just sounds better though

    I think its to do with the phases of development. It goes thru alpha and beta first then gold. Ah just remembered. Isn't it because it means they've made the gold master to print all the units with?

    the term "Gone Gold" is given once they acheive a "Gold Master" copy of the game. Its a finished copy that has passed all stages of Quality Assurance. That copy that is then sent off to the publisher for mass production, hence the gold disk in the image linked above :)

    Going for gold

    As with Going for Gold being a blessing and a curse, my brother now wont shut up about Black and White 2!
