hey guys, so i've been curious about these 3 different products but i'm really not sure which to go for.

what i'm looking for is primarily internet access on the go. Also i want e-mail on the go. and a decent calendar function. I also would like to have a portable work book (a 17 inch mac really isn't portable)

the way i see it, the iphone will sync well with my macbook (although I use sunbird not ical and thunderbird imail)

The crackberry looks a fairly good all rounder

the netbook will give me proper functionality. and i can squeeze some propa old school games on it for quick fun sessions!

music and video capabilities really aren't that important to me, although it would be nice to be able to take pictures for those odd occasions.

    What do you think?

    Cheers guys,

    Sotu

    I'll vote iPhone.

Sure I have one so there is some bias but I prefer the fact that it supports Activesync if you have a mail service that also uses it.
I'm just not a fan of the way BES works (I support it all day and imo activesync though not true push is far superior) and BB's (also affectionately named Spackberry, because they frequently have issues activating on BES servers) just don't work the way I want them to (menu systems and such).
I wouldn't even place the Netbook in the list as its just not as mobile as carrying a mobile phone/internet device and additionally you are going to need to get one with built in GSM or tether it to a phone for internet access unless you have wi-fi in high abundance, though of course the Netbook does have other uses which cannot be performed by phones.

Also worth considering are devices such as the HTC Diamond and Touch HD.

Best thing to do really though would be to drop into a few phone shops and give the devices a go or borrow one from a mate that owns such a device and see which you get on with best.

    But hey, that's just my 2p :)

I voted netbook simply because I'm not a phone person. I also dislike touch screens and I've never had good luck with blackberry phones.

Also, to me, phones which try to emulate the tools you can find on computers just don't cut it for me. Plus the whole ease of use thing too. While yes the phones are more portable maybe, but then you're a bit hindered because of the simplified applications on the phones.

I guess the question you should ask yourself is this - What level of portability and usability do you want this device to have?

After I got my girlfriend an iPod Touch for christmas I have to vote for the iPhone. The Touch does everything you ask for in your post and it has style. ;)
I can't see the iPhone perform any worse than the Touch so I'd say grab the iPhone and you won't regret it.

About the BB: Nope, all people in high enough positions at my former job had one and I haven't talked to ONE BB owner who was 100% happy with it. Some talked about the push-mail problems, other said the keyboard's a joke (using toothpicks to type, anyone?) and as my boss gave me his BB to play with it I have to say I liked it but was quite happy that I don't have to use it everyday.

iPhone, definitely. Once you have internet pretty much everywhere you go, you'll never want to go back. It has its shortcomings, but it's worth it.

blackberries are pretty terrible so i'd knock that one off your list straight off tbh :p
personally i'd rather have one of the newer generation of WinMo phones with the tasty 800x480 screens than an iphone
HTC Touch HD or SE Xperia X1 imo if you're going for a phone

netbook would be ok but how are you actually going to connect it up on the go? unless theres free wi-fi everywhere you go you're going to need to tether it to a phone or something anyway

i personally use a BB for work and i guess i am the odd man out as i like it. much more than my ipod touch (yes i know it's not an iphone but it's pretty close). However there are some really crappy BB models such as the pearl (keyboard is terrible) Fortunately i use a World Phone or BB8830. the keyboard is much easier to type on compared to the other models so i would give that one a look.

I use nokia communicator and although it does word and excel and has a keyboard etc I've never used it to do work. It's just too small to be typing away, working. Only skyped/msnd on it sometimes. Also I find reading emails on a handheld good for overview, but not deeper than that. Like reading a PDF file on a handheld screen is not practical, good for an overview but not actual work. So for a portable work book I'd say get a netbook.

The Hardware in the 1G Ipod Touch is identical to the iPhone (not the 3g version)except for the baseband modem and bluetooth... oddly some experts seem to think that the 1G iPod Touch does have the bluetooth hardware and it's been disabled somehow.

Personally I like the iPod Touch but that has a lot to do with being able to hack it open and write my own code for it :D ((2G hasn't been cracked yet)) :/

I'll vote iPhone, but I'm not a huge fan of its calendar stuff. Mostly because you can only either sync with the desktop or mobileMe, not any CalDAV calendar (Google Calendar, for one). For remote email and web, it's great - not to mention all of the other apps. That said, it can also do Exchange (which I hate), and Gcal at least has a good web interface. I don't really bother with calendars in general anyways, as they've just never been a functional addition to my lifestyle.

I hate the interface on blackberries, but if you're doing email ALL DAY LONG from the thing, the physical keyboard would be a plus in my books. For my usage, the on-screen keyboard is a fine trade off and I've composed some lengthy messages on the thing, but I do find extended typing on BB keyboards a bit better. I wouldn't buy one for quite a number of reasons though.

iPhone without a doubt. multi-touch web browsing is a pleasure.

the netbooks are good, but ask yourself, will you want to carry a bag around all the time, even though it's not a large bag.

the keyboard blackberries will be great for emails, but other than that, iphone beats it in everything else.
