Ok, just put all the components onto my board (shuttle MK20, untested apparently 1:3 are duff). Hard drive is ok (ahhh win 3.1) psu and cpu are ok. ram is untested........now i boot the system and i get bleep....1,2,3 bleep (1,2,3 is 3 seconds then a bleep for one) Is there any easy way to tell if the ram is dead from this or will i just have to look through the 90odd pages of the manual?
does it repeat that continually? If so its memory related, if not its graphics related. Try clearing the cmos out of interest, put the ram in different slots, try each stick independantly (if you have more then one). Is the ram rated to the same speed as the cpu? Try reseating the agp card. Read the stickied faq.
yeah it carries on going Ill clear it in a sec didnt think of that, but im using onboard gfx and the screen never comes outa standby. The ram is 32mb pc66 cpu is a duron 1200. Only have 1 stick of the stuff so i cant try it with another stick. btw no agp slot, its a bit old. has ISA lol Edit, cleared cmos. it doesnt bleep with ram in slot 2. but still doesnt boot.
well that solves it then, im gonna borrow a stick of 133 off a mate somewhen and see if that works the oldskool pc 66 is going on ebay now
