    Hi All,
I'm configuring a backup over ftp using a 3g dongle, but win7 keeps eating the data with its services.

I've turned off automatic updates and configured the firewall to block all outgoing and incoming connections, but I need one IP address to be allowed so that the computer can backup to an ftp site. Allowing that connection in the firewall doesn't seem to override the previous rules I've created.
Any idea how this is possible using win7 firewall?

    Thanks
    Betty

So you have sucssessfully blocked all traffic but are now unable to allow the FTP to work?

Correct. I've blocked everything, but now i need to allow one connection only.

in windows firewall advanced settings you can change the scope to block all but the ip addresses you want to have access too

edit the existing ftp rule, to use only the address you want it to access

It would only let me block or allow that address. It wouldn't allow it and block everything else.
I think I may have fixed it though. Instead of blocking IP addresses, I blocked all ports except port 21, which is the one i need. I'm not sure what else uses that port though....

Ok perfect thanks for your help guys. +rep

P.S. I did google before I posted the thread, but everyone seemed to have the same issue I had, where enabling one IP didn't act as an exception to the rule.

you'll also want to allow port 20 (and maybe a passive range of ports too)
