I wouldn't have thought so. The punch will probably crack your lovely Plexi due to its brittle nature. Metals can be punched because they are more ductile and are easier to shear cleanly. I would use a holesaw or dremel'a'like to make your holes. If you do try punching them out let us know the results. Meblin
aye a hole saw would be your best bet, taking it slow to aviod too much melting of the plexi, a punch, as meblin said, would more than likely give you a hole, just with a lot of shattered plexi around it.
i have tired doing neat blowholes in plexi with a dremel and it is very very hard to do and is near impossible to do a perfect one.
Used a jigsaw and plenty of masking tape for mine and it turned out perfectly round , just used a dremil clone to smooth of the edges.
bow to the all mighty hole saw!!! best thing for cutting holes in: plexi, wood, steel, aluminum.... damn near impossible to mess up a hole using a hole saw
hot wire sombody told me know that there exist a machine to cut plexi with a very hot wire it melts treu it and sow you can make hols in them has eny body trayed it ?
that seems logical qbank though I dont know the proper name for a machine it could work. You could make one by bending a strip of metal into a circle and attaching a AC line to both ends of it. Theres a it more circuitry that prevents it from being a dead short...
If you don't mind having a little 60mm hole you can get a holesaw set from Wilkinsons for less than 3 quid
Re: hot wire You cannot use this type of cutter to cut a hole (unless you want a nice line cut from the edge of your perspex to the hole) because it is fix like this: |Fixed here | | | | +-- Cutting surface | | Fixed It is also only really used for cutting polystyrene (the type that is used for packaging). Heat isn't the best thing to get perfect edges as it will melt more if you go slowly and less if you increase the feed (if that makes any sense) Meblin
Why don't you get a hold of some clear PVC? A hole saw cuts perfect holes in it, it's not as brittle as Acrylic (never used Plexi so don't know it's limitations.) another handy thing with PVC - I was trying to stick two surfaces together for one of my up and coming mods and was trying to think of a way to hold them together, (clamps only apply pressure on a small spot) then I spotted it in the corner of my eye... one and a half tonnes of Fully loaded frontera... hmmm. I placed the pieces inside a news paper and rolled one of the back wheels on top.... Now try doing that with acrylic!! *SNAP!*
