Im thinking about getting a Lite-On Blu Ray player and I was wondering if any of you guys have one for your computer and if you like it. please let me know what you think.
if your just getting an optical drive to playback a medium then go cheap, if your wanting to write infomation to disc's then cheap isn't the best. Considering that its just a BD-rom then a cheap will be fine. You outputing to a decent sized screen?
I have an LG HD-DVD/BD ROM drive for my HTPC - it's AWESOME. I can't stand Standard definition now on my TV downstairs. Two things: Pay the extra couple of quid and get the retail version - you'll normally get an OEM version of some playback software (I got PowerDVD 7), otherwise you'll need to buy it seperately. If you're usng it in the PC in your signature, then you'll be fine. if it's in another PC, make sure you have a graphics card / onboard graphics that can decode the Blu-Ray stream. The intel 945 chipset can't, as I found out Got a HD4650 though, and all's well again.
So beside picture do you notice a better sound? i would be using my creative sound card for my audio even though my Mobo has HD audio. And is it worth the price in your opinion?
The sound's not much different to me - I'm just using a normal 5.1 system. This is the one I have, and if you're watching on a large HDTV (comparing to SDTV freeview broadcasts), the difference is phenomenal. Well worth that money in my opinion.
This thread (and the link it contains) should answer your question From the AVforums thread: SD DVD up-converted Blu-Ray I find that extra bit of detail really makes a difference.
I think that the quality of the image you see will vary (a lot!) based on the quality of your TV. In my opinion some of the late Toshiba CRT TV's e.g 36ZP48P beats hands down the majority of budget HD LCD/Plasma TV's! I would think you would have to spend upwards of £1000 to get anything close the what that TV offers. Only downside is that the TV itself is that its as big as a house.
Heres the thing, Im only going to be using my monitor which is a HP 30 inch 2560 x 1600. so im still wondering what it would look like up scaled to this resolution
I have tuned my ATi card as much as I can to standard DVD. That is the biggest resolution i can play before I See a lot of squared edges. I want a blu ray player really bad but I would only buy about 4 BD right now (Transformers, Iron Man, The dark night, and Saw 5) So my questions is, would it be worth the $100 USD price tag?
This is a picture of the Standard DVD blown up to 2560 x 1600 I fixed it, a little bit better now. the best resolution that good "HD-ish" is 720. almost looks like blu ray. Key word is almost. looks real smooth and clear at 720 but still no 1080. I want 1600p though =DDDDDDDDDD
