When the 68i mobile phone first turned up i knew i had to have one and ran to get one the day was released. I have been wanting to play with the bluetooth feature for ages! So I looked about for a cheapie dongle. I chose a EIO wavelinker, because it was cheap! One week later the dongle arrived. Started playing as soon as i got in from work! Here is the strange lump of plastic! I sat down to get a connection to my phone. Most of the donle setup was easy to setup and automatic. I took a while to get my head around the software, and learn how blutooth works. I quick read up on the net taught me a few things. I had to upgrade the software off the net with a better version that took me 2 days to find. I set it all up hoping it would connect ok. Nothing, i gave up until today. The main reason for the connection was this free software that makes the t68i a computer remote!!! Features on this include winamp playlists through your phone, remote mouse move useing the joystick, program launching, and writing text in text based progs! I got it working today, yay! And here is the result! Sorry about the blur pic. It works really well now, and connects when you are in range. I like to try to use the full features of a product, and the bluetooth connection is a useful one!
The bluetooth dongle cost me £25 from Dabs. The software is free from christersson.org. You can also use it via a serial cable link, but that ain't half as fun
£25, much better the cheapest ones ive found in the shops here are around £50 and have too much software for LAN over BT (which i dont want) I've got all the software for the T68i... I think the stuff on christersson.org is a bit clunky and is slow to connect upto the phone. Have you tried floats mobileagent? eflame.com/fma its a LOT faster and has cable/IrDA/BT support. It doesnt have all the fancy stuff (winamp controls/txt input.pc control) but for sending txts, contact bakup and uploading to the phone its the best.
I did try floats prog, but it just crashed as soon as i tried to execute it? I suppose it does not help that I am still on win 98!!
I got the EXACT same dongle, but from a cheap Japanese company and it's a black case, anyway, incidentally It was modded and re-tailed this weekend... piccies soon! One thing though... the software sucks with it, and all I can do with my Nokia is use it as a modem... then again I get sppeds of 115kbs with teh moblie
If you have the same dongle but the software is poo you might want to try upgrading to version 2 of xtnd bluemanager. It took me ages to find, but you can get it here edit: Modding it sounds like fun, It definately needs to glow blue more
I'm glad I downloaded that in work and didn't try downloading it at home through the mobile.. 11.2MB phew!
Hey man, you have a T68i, therefore you MUST have a go at "bluejacking". It's a little-known craze which exploits many Nokia-users stupidity. By default Nokia phones with Bluetooth are set to be discoverable. Therefore, take your mad-1337 T68i into a public place such as a bank or restaurant (preferably somewhere that'll have a lot of 6310i's etc) and search for devices. Then send them a contact called "Are you enjoying your pizza?" or something similar relating to what they're currently doing. ****s everyone up so bad! They really should put it on the feature list of the phone as a game or something; great fun!
Dude! We do the exact same thing in pubs... except we send people pictures... I got one of a big turd thats always fun to send. The best bit is guessing who's phone it is. You can tell when someone goes UGGHH! someone sent me a picture of a s**t! Good fun it is!
Heh heh! When I went to the stuff tech show in London I kept discoverable on all day to see if i could link to some kit they were showing off. In particular they were showing a bluetooth washing machine, and fridge. That would of been fun!!! Gotta try that game though, would not of though that many people have there phones on discoverable. But I guess I could annoy some nokia owners, heh
On average i find about 3-5 people every sat night in the pub(s) and a few more in the club! People with BT are catching on in the club and now i keep myself on discoverable cos people are sending my pictures around You'd be amazed what people send!!!
Out of interest were can u get the T68i? And how much is it, what networks and is it contract or pay as u go? Im seriously thinkin of getting the phone and gadget all in one go! cheers!
It's available on both PAYG and contract, its free on contract. If you want it on PAYG i'd look in the freeads/newspaper cos there are always a few for sale. ~£200 with camera in good condition. One thing to look out if your buying 2nd-hand for is that the joypad button-thing works well. Also that the menu/keylock button is not 'soft' because its the first thing to go and costs a fortune to replace.
but most phones have bluetooth switched off... and just for general info, the default password on nokia phones for bluetooth is 12345
You may think most do, but quite a few Nokia users seem oblivious to the fact that Bluetooth is set to discoverable by default (I heard this from a reliable source, can anyone confirm). I'd assume it's right since you rarely find other SE users unless they know and they're searching for Bluetooth phones too
As NiHiLiST said it is mostly Nokia phones, mainly the 6310 and the one with the camera. I do occasionly find another T68i but most of the time its one of my mates. You can tell the people with nokias dont know about bluetooth because they never change their phones name and it is still left as "Nokia 6310". Whilst everyone i know with the T68i/T39 have changes it. I suppose it shows the kind of people with the nokias dont really know/care about BT.
I can't be arsed changing mine... so it stays Nokia 8910, besides, It's trusted on my pc now and i only turn it on when I need to.... drans the batteries.
