Does anyone know if there's a heath and safety issue with using blue LEDs? I want to put on in my mouse, and as it will be pointing at my palm all day, I wondered if there was any risk from UV? Do Blue LEDs pump out any UV? I thought I read somewhere that they do, but maybe someone can tell me otherwise.
I've heard that if you attach a small battery pack to one and swallow them both it can be harmful.. Other than that, no problems I can think of. If you do feel that it would be a bad idea, let me know and I'll send you my addy (so you can mail me your blue leds! hehe j/k) But no, Linear is right (surprise surprise)
I can whip out a data sheet that has the spectral analysis of a blue LED, spectral peak at 470nm, blah blah blah. But it ain't gonna hurt you.
But the Surgeon General gave me these blue LED's. And the companies that grow and sell blue LED's are marketing them directly at my age group using scantily dressed supermodels. sorry had to continue your thought
Thanks folks. I'll let you all know if I get skin cancer in 20 years time. I think I'll go ahead with my mod.
i got 12 blue leds in the front of my case either 2400mcd or 3000mcd at 470nm. I think im a higher risk than you
get ready to flame me Sorry for the noob-esq question, but where can I get cheap blue LEDs in the US? Does anyone have a favorite supplier? It won't hurt me physically to use them, will it? (just to stay on topic)
actually i just stick with radioshack.. unless your buying in bulk.. the shipping cost more than makes up for the price difference.. -scoob8000
i actually bought 100 bl00000 LED's on ebay a few months back for 50 bucks.... used about 60 of them and sold the rest to me friends for $3.00 a piece made some quick cash! I live in illinois, maybe i can look at my local electronics store and see if i can get you a deal, or maybe i have a few laying around if you wanna pay postage or something. Ill look for them in the morning.
