Hi, Just started getting blue screens for some reason. When it comes up, I don't have much time to read it but I have had it twice in two days now and it says something like POWER_HARD_DRIVE_STATE or something, is this a sign my HDD is about to break? Here is what windows says about it: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 2057 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 9f BCP1: 0000000000000003 BCP2: FFFFFA8005428060 BCP3: FFFFF80004AA73D8 BCP4: FFFFFA8003FE8010 OS Version: 6_1_7601 Service Pack: 1_0 Product: 256_1 I could link to the dump files if that will help anyone. TIA
Have you changed anything in your system recently? Added any new hardware or changed any drivers? Can you list some specs. Also can you boot into safe mode?
best to run diagnostics on the drive, do you see it often, or was it a one off event, if one off, i probably wouldnt worry, but if you see it a few times, back up the drive, do the diagnostics, replace sata cable, get new drive
Couple of things that may have an effect: Recently got a new flash drive (usb). Recently changed my partition names to windows 7 and windows 8. Also, it hasn't been a hard drive related problem, but my cpu is slightly broken, as my pci-e x16 slot doesn't work, but the 2x slot lower down does. I have only seen it recently, now twice. Also, in disk management it says the drives are healthy, but is this reliable. Thanks for the suggestions.
Right-click computer in the start menu, then select properties, then select Advanced system settings, then click Startup and Recovery Settings, then uncheck the Automatically restart. This will stop your BSOD from rebooting and allow you to see what the bugs say. Changing the partition name will not effect the HDD. I can't see a flash drive is damaging your HDD, but if your PSU doesn't have enough power when adding USBs or anything extra can cause instabilities. If your PCI-E x16 is faulty then it's your motherboard not CPU that's faulty. As I was directed by noizdaemon666 thanks to him, use Seatools to check the condition of your HDDs. All this is if it is your HDD that's faulty, but if you turn off the auto restart then you will know more.
Got a 650w corsair psu so that should be fine. Its definitely my cpu as my gpu works properly in other motherboards and Ive already had a new mobo. I'll try sea tools tonight.
I would strongly suggest backing up (if you don't already) asap - I had something similar where I thought my ssd was on the way out but it passed all the checks and diagnostics I threw at it. Needless to say within a week it was dead... Better to be safe than sorry!
